The egg was being moved to a quarantine section of the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire from the Caribbean Reef display.
But the shark, which is just 4ins (10cm) long and has been named Ariel after the Little Mermaid character, was born during medical checks.
Divers who survived night in shark-infested waters have to pay for their rescue Kelly Timmins, a diver, said: "We're just hoping it doesn't bond with the first thing it sees, which was me."
"It is pretty unique for a shark to be born out of the water," Ms Timmins told the BBC. "Ariel's doing well though.
"These sharks spend the first few weeks living off a little egg before moving on to solid food but he's growing well.
"We're also hoping it is only a matter of time before his brothers and sisters start hatching out - although we're hoping they'll do it all in the water."
The aim is to get the eggs out of the main ocean display before they hatch to protect them from the larger species.

They’ve named it Rahm.
Just don't try to breastfeed it.
Ariel is an ancient poetic Hebrew name for Jerusalem. I always maintained therefore that the heroine of The Little Mermaid, Disney edition, was a Jewish girl.
Should name it Mack...
Ariel's sisters names are Aquatta, Andrina, Arista, Adella, Alana and Attina. Are these Jewish names too?
They sound a little Italian, don’t you think?
Not a clue. Sebastian the crab dude had a Caribbean accent. I'd have thought that ocean dwellers would be less diverse :)
When my daughter was little her best friend was Jewish. The little girl felt a bit downcast because the heroine of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast tale was obviously Catholic, being French; the heroine of Aladdin was obviously Muslim, so to cheer her up I told her Ariel must be Jewish, with a name that was a poetic name for Jerusalem. It made her very happy. So it was just a bit of a joke.
