If shooting the things wasn't so expensive, I wouldn't mind having an old cannon.

As far as I know, a person could obtain a WWII era railroad gun, convert it to fire as a muzzle loader and no paperwork would be required.

I hate it when I do that! At least he didn’t take out the F-150. That would truly been a tragedy.

Back in the late '70's, an acquaintance and his brothers built a muzzleloading cannon out of materials found on and near their farm. The bore size was close enough to use pop cans filled with concrete; IIRC, they just used GOEX Fg blackpowder and "fireworks grade" cannon fuse to propel the former empties. The father of the clan became irate after one of his outbuildings became an impromptu accuracy and penetration target (revealing that concrete-filled aluminum cans punched neat holes in two sides even at relatively low velocity).

I declined an invitation to become part of the "gun crew" because I had no desire to loiter around a thin mild steel tube of unknown lineage when it was stuffed with an explosive. As the novelty wore off, they looked high and low to find the makings of a M/L mortar that would fire old bowling balls.

Alas, they were unsuccessful, which probably contributed to their longevity.

How many nights have I sat in my living room, listening to the drunken idiots across the road roaring out the Motown Hits of the Sixties (or rap, or Latin songs) and wished I had a Napoleon? How many nights have I lain in my bed, unable to sleep because of the noise, and wondered whether round shot, chain shot, or a whiff of grape would be best for ripping a townhouse in half horizontally?

Some besotted male admirer should buy me a field piece. Christmas is coming! I keep hinting but for some reason no one obliges. I receive tiresome things like sweaters and scarves rather than artillery. WTF.
