The doctor I heard said that it is a mild flu, but it does stress your iummune system and make you vulnerable to secondary infections.

Well anytime your body is fighting an illness, you are vulnerable.

My daughter felt really bad for about 24 hours, and that was about how long the fever lasted. Kept all other family members on nature's medicines, and none of us got sick.

Maybe we were overly cautious, but we kept her away from the public for a little over a week, until her cough had passed.

Hmmmm. Never heard of kombucha. Based on preliminary research, it sounds interesting.

The issue about the H1N1 vaccine is pretty alarming. Something about the immune response to the virus suggests that anti-inflammatory prophalaxis is suggested. Here we are three decades later, with new and improved vaccine technology and the same problem exists. I believe that anybody who's going to get immunized with H1N1 vaccine should be on a homeopathic regimen (such as I've suggested) as IF they're actually succumbing to the flu. I seems plausible that it would mitigate the risk of Guillen-Barre. I wonder if the very people that succumb to that would've died horribly from H1N1 outright. Again, it would seem that the issue central to the matter comes down to attenuation of immune inflammatory response. To that end, I believe any homeopathic agent relevent to autoimmune disorders such as lupus and Crone's Disease, et. ali. may be potentially beneficial.

A paper published by the European Respiratory Journal titled: Attenuation of influenza-like symptomatology and improvement of cell-mediated immunity with long-term N-acetylcysteine treatment can be found here:

Here's a link to the benefits of Cat's Claw

A new botanical nutrient, Uncaria Tomentosa, is being called by many the "Miracle Herb from the Rain Forest of Peru". It has been drawing increasingly more interest among the proponents of natural health care. Although virtually unheard of in the United States until recently, the beneficial effects of the Peruvian herb Uncaria tomentosa, commonly known as "una de gato" in Spanish and "cat's claw" in English, have been studied at research facilities in Peru, Austria, Germany, England, Hungary and Italy, since the 1970's. These studies suggest that the herb may be beneficial in the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, allergies, diabetes, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, herpes, organic depression, menstrual irregularities and disorders of the stomach and intestines. (References 1, 2, 3)

Properties attributed to cat's claw include:

The main issue concerning mega-doses of Vit. C is the potential risk of kidney stone formation. However, if one consumes two qt of fluids per day and don't have any history of kidney disease it shouldn't be a problem. Normal fluid intake should be sufficient to generate 1 qt of urine daily. It would surprise most people to realize that they're not properly hydrated.

I believe that insufficient hydration plays a significant role in any risk of kidney stone formation with mega-doses of vit. C. If one has ever had kidney stones, then the specific type of kidney stone needs to be known, and one's doctor should be appraised of long-term vit C. intake.

There is a supplement that can be taken to mitigate the risk in any case. I believe its niacin (in conjunction with B-6 & B-12), but I'm unsure (I'm certain about the latter not the former). And niacin needs to be balanced with some choline also. I think all of that can be found in a Hi-B complex.

NAC is better against the flue, look up (N-Acetyl-Cysteine), I buy the Jarrow’s sustain formula, slow release, you should take twice as much vitamin C with your NAC, NAC is an amino acid, do a google on NAC and the Flu and you’ll see real studies, it’s very, very hard to get the flu on NAC and if you do it will be like a minor cold, of course, Vitamin D is cool too. Nothing against Cat’s Claw, I like Rain Tree’s cat’s claw but haven’t taken it some time, NAC is better, it also detoxes and is great for your liver ...

NAC Flu Research (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

Silvio De Flora, M.D., of the Institute of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Genoa, Italy, enrolled 262 subjects in a randomized, double-blind study to determine how NAC affects the flu virus. Details of the study are as follows:

· Subjects were given either two placebos or two 600 mg NAC tablets daily for six months during the wintertime flu season.

· All of the participants kept a daily log of their health and symptoms, and were tested for flu antibodies.

· Since blood tests of those taking placebo and NAC showed similar titers of flu virus, the results indicate that NAC did not prevent infection with the influenza virus.

· However, of those who had detectable flu virus in their bloodstream, only 25 percent of those taking NAC developed flu symptoms.

· In contrast, of those who had detectable flu virus in their bloodstream, 79 percent of those taking the placebo developed flu symptoms.

· NAC treatment was well tolerated and resulted in a significant decrease in the frequency of influenza-like episodes, severity and length of time confined to bed.

Thus, the researchers concluded that supplementing with NAC significantly reduces the severity and likelihood of having flu symptoms. Due to its safety and support of the immune, lung and hepatic systems, supplementing with NAC appears to be a wise alternative to Western medicine for enjoying a healthier winter season.

This is what I take, one every day with 2,000 mg of Vitamin C, you must do these two together. Notice that folks that took NAC (in my post just above this one) did test positive for the flu titers (ie, they were exposed but very few 25% showed any symptoms, and they were mild). What does that sound like? Ya, a FREAKIN' FLU SHOT BABY without the risk, ahhh, I love natural medicine ...

LOL. Did you go to the link I provided about NAC? There seems to be some good empirical evidence in support of its role as an immune system regulator and mediator. It doesn’t act in an immuno-suppressive manner either, i.e., it seems to ride herd on the immune-cats.

The other agents are more anti-inflamatory in nature. So the two in conjunction would seem to be prudent. There may be similiar benefit derived from glucosamine but that seems more geared towards cartilege issues. However, examination of the purported mechanism makes it seem plausible that it can confer benefit with regards to the SARS aspect of H!N1 infection. Who knows, maybe naprosyn (Aleve) has a similar effect, but I’m skeptical.

As far as Vit D supplements, I’ve read that the pills are useless and its natural Vit. D that provides any immune benefit. Unfortunately natural sources of Vit. D are hard to come by; you have to eat a ton of a few foods that actually contain it in amy measurable quantity.

Ya, I’ve been taking NAC for months, more for its detoxing properties, I only learned of its excellent anti-flu properties when the “piggy pox” scam scare began and did some research, lo and behold, NAC again comes to the rescue. They use NAC when people OD on Acetometaphin too, saves their liver, the stuff is awesome, binds to pesticides and Acetaldehyde (by product of yeast die off and hangovers) and flushes them right out, the stuff is a miracle supplement in my arsenal.

I have a daughter with severe asthma triggered by colds/flu. I have another daughter who has a brain injury and a seizure disorder. The death rate for this flu is for people with neurologic disorders is twice that of regular flu.

My daughter with the seizure disorder is getting over a nasty cold. I was thinking it might be swine flu, but the doctor doesn’t think so. She never had a fever, but her nose has been very congested, and she’s been very tired.

Did he have a fever? My daughter has had something. The doctor thought it was just a cold, but it’s been a nasty cold. She didn’t really have much of a fever, but lots of snot.

Yep, her fever hit almost 103. And no snot issues. She was sick for maybe 48 hours, really bad for 24. That’s it.

Roger, copy that Sythian.

All you other’s who’ve been pinged with this post posted SOMETHING on THIS thread that was remotely germane to the issue of the current vaccine technology. This post is intended to edify EVERYBODY having a plausible interest in the matter that an alternative prophalaxis exists.

I heard a blip on this evening’s Fox News there’s a 1x injectible prophalaxis that’s as good (if not better) than the current technology of oral oseltemivir (daily 5x).

All I gots to say about any of the homeopathic H1N1 “solutions”, talk to your doc ‘bout what you’re doing (keep clear and concise records about vitals and symptoms).

So there’s this new stuff out...

Qwexion is: what are the side-affects?

So is C a precursor to NAC or are we boosting our C for another reason?

thank you so much for this information!!!!
