There was a local pediatrician on the local radio station today, discussing the vaccine for the swine flu. She said that rather than buying the vaccine from the manufacturer or a broker, as usual, doctors will have to get the new vaccine from the government. There is also a long list of standards to decide who can get the vaccine, it won't be the doctors decision. There is a lot of paperwork involved. There are harsh penalties proposed for any doctor who gives the vaccine to someone who doesn't meet the criteria.
I reckon this is a sign of the new things to come, we need to do more research on it.
I will not get this vaccine. My son will not get this vaccine. Vaccinator, meet .38 Special. SSS, in that order.

Not in this family. Alas my grandson has to get it. He lives in Massachusetts and his mother is caring for a handicapped child, his step-sister, and they are all required by law to get the shots.

I work for Big Pharma. Most of my colleagues have said no way to this vaccine. I agree. Too many possible side effects, Guillen-Barre being chief among them.
She said it isn't the flu that usually kills, the flu stresses and damages your immune system and it takes a while for repairs. She said that the big danger came from catching something else while your defenses are down, such as a bacterial infection. Many of the bacteria are pretty much drug resistant now. She said that you needed several days after your fever returns to normal for your immune system to rebound, so don't go out and get exposed to something else.

HA. Massachusetts is threatening to quarantine homes and enter residences without a warrant over this molehill.
The groups recommended to receive the novel H1N1 influenza vaccine include:
* Pregnant women
* Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
* Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
* All people from 6 months through 24 years of age
*** Children from 6 months through 18 years of age
*** Young adults 19 through 24 years of age
* Persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.
Once the demand for vaccine for the prioritized groups has been met at the local level, programs and providers should also begin vaccinating everyone from the ages of 25 through 64 years. Current studies indicate that the risk for infection among persons age 65 or older is less than the risk for younger age groups. However, once vaccine demand among younger age groups has been met, programs and providers should offer vaccination to people 65 or older.

Law? This is unconstitutional. Your family and the children they are caring for are better off without this shot.
This is also true with the regular flu vaccine. Very few people die from the flu. What they die from is a secondary infection, usually pneumonia. However, healthy people are not at risk.
Absolutely. We don't work with vaccines, but we have the contacts in the industry to keep us ahead of the curve.

Can’t reveal my source, but a doctor friend told me not to get my son (11 months) vaccinated. He is not allowing his pregnant wife to get vaccinated either.

There are a few around who are in full panic mode about H1N1 and are flipping that so many of us are avoiding this vaccine.
Actually, there's some evidence that anyone who went through the 1968 flu pandemic has some protection against H1N1.
