Device captures everything you type and sends it via your ethernet card to the Dept. of Homeland Security without your knowledge, consent or a search warrant - every time you log on to the internet!
I was opening up my almost brand new laptop, to replace a broken PCMCIA slot riser on the motherboard. As soon as I got the keyboard off, I noticed a small cable running from the keyboard connection underneath a piece of metal protecting the motherboard.

This was sent to me, not confirmed.

Why does this BS float through about every other week? Is someone trying to immunize us to thinking it's an Urban Legend before they install the real thing?Teenage hackers getting 'gay thrills' by creating dozens of bogus websites with fuzzy images and fabricated HDS documents; Michael Rivero (of what really happened) class pap meant to 'scare' others by gaining exposure in the press ...
I fill the spaces between the keys with frito crumbs, it foils all their evil efforts!
1. no mention of the name or model number of the computer. If true, I think he would want this information to get out to the public.
2. Very blurry picture of the connection, especially when compared to the other sharp pictures.
3. Four wire connection on the disassembled board. That looks like the wiring for an external keyboard. Laptop keyboards are usually connected to their motherboards with a flexible ribbon cable because the decoding electronics are split between the keyboard and the motherboard, unlike an external keyboard where all the decoding has to be on the keyboard.
4. Calling the PIC16F876 a Programmable Interrupt Controller. That is where the acronym PIC comes from, but they have been full (if somewhat quirky) microprocessors for a long time.
5. It would be vastly easier for the government to get Microsoft and Apple to drop a keylogger into the operating system or the manufacturers to include one built into the motherboard than convert the raw signals to a PS/2 style signal (it doesn't look like a USB cable) to record.
For now."For now."
What does that mean?
ANYTHING that leaves your PC/laptop CAN BE OBSERVED via an IP packet sniffer. Coming up, better include a WiFi or a BlueTooth of-air monitor as well. I mention these last two, because, they are alternatives that most people don't give much thought to BUT an implanted (software) key logger could just as easily use wireless.
- and I covered all this in the thread that was deleted, so I have to repeat myself all over again to quote Yogi Berra! ;)
I should point out that your firewall should block outbound connections unless you KNOW what traffic is being sent out. Allow only those ports you use. Log all traffic and review your logs on a regular basis. If there is anything NOT NORMAL, check out right away.

A concerned citizen could just limit their computer use to point and click using the mouse.
Then “they” would never see your keystrokes!
Those stupid intelligence agencies can’t fool me!

To be on the safe side, I’d recommend cutting all wire connecting to the motherboard. That’ll show them.
Yes, correct. But, you and I know that the average Pat and Paul Family will never take all these precautions. That’s why I am always happy to have the hacker community on the job. Because as soon as they find the holes, then they are plugged. The #1 item for safety is to keep your systems OS patched with the latest release.
This silliness just won’t die :(
Fritos...yum!!
Rumor-mongers have rights too!
I hope DHS doesn’t find out what I said about 0bama’s ears.
I just wear an old pressure cooker!
I am way too paranoid to let it go with just the OS patches :-). Then again, I work in the security / risk management space and I know what is out there.
You should be more worried about the implant the Martians placed in your ear while you were sleeping.
