14 September-
Lwow now completely encircled by XVIII Corps units
House of Commons debates, 14 September 1939
Mr Campbell Stephen (Glasgow Camlachie)
asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that owing to the air-raid signal on 6th September many people were late at their work; and whether he intends to introduce legislation to see that they are not penalized by loss of wages for such periods when their failure to work is due to circumstances outwith their control?
Mr Ernest Brown (Leith)
This question is under discussion in various industries, and I understand that in some cases agreed arrangements have already been made to meet the situation. There is no present intention of introducing special legislation.
U-39’s attack on Ark Royal had three different versions when I was looking this morning. The torpedoes exploded astern in the wake, they exploded prematurely, and they didn’t detonate at all.
Interesting that the U-39 crew didn’t have a casualty when it was sunk.
Battle of Jaworow-Sadowa begins as encircled Polish troops near Lvov prepare to attempt a breakout.
14 September, 1939-
Japanese troops advance south towards the Chinese port of Changsha. As more Chinese and Japanese troops converge here, 270,000 soldiers will be engaged in fighting in this city over the next few weeks.

SECRET
No. 350 of September 14
Reference your telegram No. 336 of September 13.
Molotov summoned me today at 4 p.m. and stated that the Red Army had reached a state of preparedness sooner than anticipated. Soviet action could therefore take place sooner than he had assumed at our last conversation (see my telegram No. 317 of September 10). For the political motivation of Soviet action (the collapse of Poland and protection of Russian “minorities”) it was of the greatest importance not to take action until the governmental center of Poland, the

city of Warsaw, had fallen. Molotov therefore asked that he be informed as nearly as possible as to when the capture of Warsaw could be counted on.
Please send instructions.
I would direct your attention to today’s article in Pravda, carried by DNB, which will be followed by a similar article in Izvestia tomorrow. The articles serve [to prepare] the political motivation mentioned by Molotov for Soviet intervention.

Thank you once again for the amount of detail you are filling in here. This is developing into quite an archive.
Didn't the Germans know that there was no Pravda in Izvestiya, and no Izvestiya in Pravda.
No problem, WW2 History, especially the Eastern front, is a hobby of mine.
And even I’m learning new things by researching this stuff!
Me too, I learn new things every day here, and I am pretty knowledgeable on WWII and Polish history. It’s always interesting to see how people saw events without the benefit of hindsight.
For me, it’s a family thing...
My Grandfather was on the Eastern Front from the very beginning, until almost the end.
Thought I’d check in real quick. Been a rough weekend and will likely be a rough week. I’ll try to get caught up tomorrow morning.
I wanted say that I’m sad to report the passing of Brigadier General Kendall Bell, my wife’s uncle. He passed away peacefully Friday evening.
He flew F-105s over Vietnam and also is the author of the book 100 Missions North chronicling his tour of duty (I recommend it for those interested in what pilots when through over Vietnam).
Like I said, I’ll try to get back up to speed tomorrow morning and will get Phase IV of German ops posted too.
So you support Obama's rules of engagement in Afghanistan?
