I know a woman is became a medical transcritionist...no kidding. She had to go to some real live classes to learn the shorthand...but much of the work she does involves working on her computer at home. I think the handwritten documents are mailed to her; and, she types them up and posts them to a site.

You can definitely make money using your computer, but try to think of the computer as a tool, and not so much as a business itself.
I’ve been making money online since the beginning of the year, so I can vouch that it can at least be done. Naturally, you have to do your due diligence when choosing what online business to go with. In my experience, most of them are real businesses, but they do vary broadly in cost, administration, and strength of market demand for their products.
There are also some dead-end schemes out there that you can waste your money on, but anyone with reasonable intelligence should be able to spot those.
The fact is, doing business online is work. You’re not going to “get rich while you sleep.” If you’re a person who has a decent work ethic and will put in the effort, you’ll do as well with an online business, as with a traditional job.

Fill it with content and keep it fresh, adding to it on a regular basis. Apply for Google adsense and put the adsense modules on every page of your site. Sign up for affiliate programs with companies selling products related to the theme of your site; cars, books,music,plays, fishing, historic reenactments - whatever. Add a forum and promote your site on other forums on line and anywhere you can.
Get a video camera and a YouTube account and post videos two or three times a week on the same subject as your web site. Cross promote and embed your videos on on your web site.
Use every tool available to drive traffic to your site. If you put in forty or fifty hours a week on two or three sites you can make pretty good money. It is just like any other entrepreneurial venture though. You have to work hard to make real money but you CAN make real money if you work at it.
