HAMMOND, La. (AP) - A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist.

He can have all the personal opinions he wants. But as an elected official, is he allowed to have his personal feelings dictate what he will or won’t do on the job? Is that legal? I can’t choose who I will or won’t serve based on their color and I’m not in any form of government.
And I do know many interracial couples that have good, solid marriages. One couple has been married for 40 years, the others are in the 20s (of marriage, not age) and a few are approaching 20. Not one of them is a teenager or an immature woman and about 1/3 of them are black wife/white husband. I also know many Hispanic/white or Asian/white marriages that are successful. None of these people are trying to be ‘trendy’ and they’re not stupid.

So what? Most of society does not accept children who are raised in anti-religious households, in households that home school, or in households where the parents are morons. Should people who are anti-religious, pro-homeschooling, or just plain moronic be prevented from getting married?
Is it stupid for a good man of one race and a good woman of another race to love each other and get married?
Is it smart to allow bureaucrats to deny a marriage between a man and a woman based on the bureaucrat's perception of their compatibility?

This judge is crazy. If he is trying to stop interracial marriages he’d better start with Moses who married an Ethiopian woman according to the Bible.
These days I am just glad that the couples trying to get together are a man and a woman and not a couple of homosexuals.

Keith Bardwell only very recently became Republican. He was a life-long Democrat until December of last year.

If the judge is so honest and wise, you should be able to come up with statistics showing that interracial marriages have an astronomical divorce rate. So put up or shut up...and BTW, calling yourself a racist in an open post on FR is doing Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann’s work for them.
Regardless of party affiliation, he’s an activist judge who does not honor the language of law. Toss his fat rump from the bench.

Not to agree with the judge’s premise but just picking an example, Barack Obama’s mother had 2 failed marriages (actually one as the first marriage to Barack’s father was invalid since he was a bigamist).
I say let them get married. He may be trying to instigate “debate” to advance same sex marriage AND slur his newfound Republican affliation.
