I hate snakes — rattlers are at the top of the list. At least rattlers will usually let you know they are there. My neighbor had a timber rattler in her garden in August. It rattled and let her know.
We also have copperheads. I really hate those guys. You can't see them, usually. They look like leaves. You usually don't know they are there until they strike at you......

Vaq - wifey and I took almost five weeks this past spring and jumped in the old Camry and toodled around the entire lower third of the U.S......7000 miles, as much as possible OFF the Interstates, visiting friends, family and just having fun doing offbeat stuff like Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas and "gemming" in North Carolina, and driving the beach in Daytona.
We still talk about it just about every day.
