Dierks Bentley Fan Was Hero Who Ended Fort Hood Shooting Spree

In the aftermath of shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 people and injured another 30, Dierks Bentley learned that he had a connection to the civilian police officer who stopped the rampage. The singer was featured in a photo with the officer, Kimberly Munley, that made its way to television news shows and the Internet. Bentley met Munley earlier this year during a Fourth of July music festival at the U.S. Army post near Killeen, Texas. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, opened fire Thursday (Nov. 5) at Fort Hood. Munley was at the scene and shot Hasan in the upper torso, which allowed authorities to apprehend him. Munley was shot in the thighs and wrist. In a Twitter message, Bentley said he managed to contact Munley, who is still being treated at a Killeen-area hospital. Bentley's Twitter message stated, "was able to speak to sgt munley & pass along my prayers for a speedy recovering. she's tough! and couldn't be more nice or humble. real hero."

I have never heard of him — was he the main character in “Long Teatime of the Soul?”

“I have never heard of him.”

Dierks Bentley is a country music singer. He’s fairly well known if you follow that kind of music.

That’s funny!
I think he had a holistic detective agency.

He had some country music hits. Fun songs and videos. He was touted as one of the “next generation” of country music. I’m sure he’s still writing music, but this is the only video I remember:

All joking aside, this was a pretty stand-up thing for him to do in contacting her.

IIRC he’s got a lot of military connection and is a great supporter of the troops (USO tours to the AOR, etc.). Good guy.

Shouldn’t it be the other way around: “Hero Who Ended Shooting Spree is Dirks Bentley Fan”, or better “Dirks Bentley is Fan of Hero Who Ended Fort Hood Shooting Spree””

Bently had nothing to do with this in any way shape or form and I hope to God he isn’t trying to latch onto this for publicity.

That is sick.

I don’t get that impression, I think it’s more he’s being contacted because he’s in this picture that’s been all over the place today.

He is also awfully cute. (Don’t worry, I am a woman — old enough to be his mother, too. :-)

"Dierks Bentley Fan Was Hero Who Ended Fort Hood Shooting Spree"

Just before she opened fire she got a little bit "sideways"!

Well done soldier!

CMT sure put it in a p-poor light.

If his people had any class at all they’d have kept that private.

He dropped several notches in my book.

Nah you got to understand Dierks and Paisley are New type Artists who talk to their fans through Twitter. Dierks is good people and he's telling the fans that The Sgt. is OK and doing well. He's probably gotten thousands of messages from fans asking if he has heard from her because of the picture and so he contacted her to let the fans know.
