The world will not end in 2012
Renew America ^ | November 16, 2009 | Kevin Fobbs

On Friday November 13th the movie titled: 2012 which dramatizes global disaster was the number one weekend box office hit in what is the first of quite possibly a deluge of movies that will inundate America and rest of the globe about what far too many believe will be the end of the world. Sure it should be taken as just a light diversion to entertain the great masses, but for far too many it will be taken more seriously.

For buried within the value of its entertainment is a nugget of less skepticism at it being just a movie and more a rush to accept it as pure, unmitigated, fact. The reasons are as many and varied as there are people. Yet one fact is predominant. We are getting further and further from the dominion of God's word.

Many want to scapegoat this moving away from God as the nation's and the world's growing woes are so complicated with all of its wars, rumors of wars, and escalating national and international calamities that God must have left the building on us. So off goes the quiet trigger in our head which should set off an "Uh oh, the world is coming to an end and we better get ready, because after all there is proof: the 2012 movie."

And what is this "proof" that has the movie industry so set on helping the misinformed and the easily deceived to believe? Well there are ancient forecasters like Nostradamus or the almost pure hokum of the followers of the DaVinci Code. Or let's throw in the Mayan Calendar's accepted belief in the end of their calendar cycle concluding on Friday December 21st, 2012 meaning it was some sort of forecast for the end of the world as well.

There are those who would rather turn to a person like astronomer and former Astronomical Society of the Pacific President David Morrison, who has as part of his job as Senior Scientist at NASA's Astrobiology Institute to bring scientific reassurance to nagging public inquiries like will the earth be blasted to smithereens in 2012 like the Mayans and other prognosticators have claimed. http://www.astrosociety.org/2012/ .

I, for one, do not need a NASA scientist to verify end-of-the world claims. Nor am I going to buy into these accepted alarmist theories or predictions because — the truth be told — the visions or the insights are predicated on what? Is it contingent upon what is contained within the very words that God's son gave us when he declared in no uncertain and non-compromising language: "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Matthew 24:36

If this is true, and I believe it is so, then how would one begin to claim that the Mayans and their calendar ending on Friday 21st, of December 2012 to be the cataclysmic endgame for our world? Are we to believe that the Mayans or Nostradamus were more informed than angels or Jesus Christ the Son of God?

You must understand something which is quite clear in this analysis, one can either believe man and all the prognosticators who follow with their litany of possible end-games for life or you can begin to understand that there just might be a devil in the mix who wants to divert your attention from the word of God.

God did not give Satan dominion over the earth, although some mistakenly believe this to be the case. Satan wants you to believe he controls us and the word of God is dead. He is hoping that you accept that one bright person like a Mayan chief or a curious Nostradamus might have just opened up the vault of heavenly secrets that announces the exact end to the world. Well Satan might be clever; he might be bright; he might be devious; but he is not God. Satan cannot deceive you when you understand that only God has the keys to unlock the truth of the end of the world. "From your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way." Psalm 119:104

It is perhaps the need to be scared out of our faith and our walk with God that seems so contemporarily popular. We would rather walk in the darkness in fear and enjoy the sensation of being scared to death by a series of popular movies that allows for the undermining of our faith than to accept God's eternal truth.

Am I saying that going to the movies that focus on "End of The World" themes are wrong? No I am saying if your goal is to be simply entertained by fictional Hollywood accounts, that is on you — as long as you fully understand that God and not man or Satan will determine the end of the world.

I truly see movies like this as a teaching mechanism.

My grandfather was a minister for 75 years and a teacher. He taught my father and my uncles and aunts. My grandmother was a teacher also until she passed away in the early 1920's. What I learned from my father, and he from his teacher father, was that like Christ, if you provide examples for others who you care about and want to help see the light of God then show them how even an entertainment vehicle like 2012 can help showcase the difference between real Hollywood fiction and biblical faith centered upon God's word.

So in effect as my grandfather, Rev. Jonathan Fobbs, would say there are literally millions of teaching opportunities awaiting loving parents, understanding grandparents, concerned and compassionate aunts and uncles. There is much good to be done by not showing how to run away from faith but by showing God's steadfast love if we embrace him.

So on Friday December 21st, 2012 perhaps when all of the so-called prophetic movies and their unleashing of mayhem and boundless carnage has worked its way into the Hollywood money changers' bank vaults, prayerfully much of those millions will make its way into the coffers of churches, synagogues and temples.

Then on Saturday morning of December 22nd, 2012, give God the loudest shout of praise that you and your loved ones can muster. This should be a day when God's Day returns to the hearts of those who were mixed up, confused, turned away, led astray and just plain disbelieved. Jesus Christ's own words come to mind. "He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs that the Father has fixed by His own authority," Acts 1:7

We will learn that mass fear and hysteria has been replaced. We will have been given a new hard drive. Our faith will be rebooted and our software of belief restored to fully functioning and completely operational.

Because, you see, when the word of God is stated in the Bible and it says: "But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." Mark 13:32, I believe it is non-compromising and absolute.

Therefore, I invite you now to join me on December 22nd, 2012 and give a shout out for God. Let's all enjoy a wonderful morning breakfast. Keep God's wisdom in your heart and pass the eggs and cheese toast, please.

The main point of this world!

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Matthew 24:36

Anyone who has actually STUDIED the Mayan Calendar and the surrounding culture knows that at the end of the cycle, it merely starts again.

There is some expressed hope in the ancient texts that people alive at the time will use the time as a time of thoughtful introspection, but it is like Gregorian AD 2,000 — interesting but no more than a mark on a line or the turn of a calendar page.

There is the parable of the good Samaritan and the man he took to the in and said he would return in two days. Many believe that this is a picture of Christ returning two days or 2000 years as Peter said a day is as to 1000 years to God.

Well, I have had a ton of calendars which ended on December 31 of any given year, and the world hasn't ended yet.

Maybe they should have put "see other rock" or "lather, rinse, repeat" or somesuch on the calendar...
