WOW! Just came across this on the Twitter page of Ron Smith from oldiesmusic.com. Ray is always interesting - most of the time funny, sometimes serious, always worth listening to. But I never knew him to get political like this, and what a joy that he is on our side! This will never get airplay, of course, but we need to spread it around as much as we can.
Thanks for the info! Didn’t realize it had a former artist! Dropkick Me Jesus was another of my favorites.
Love Shriner’s Convention and it’s little known but Ray Stevens is a great-great grandson of Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy...
Biggest thing that Ray and Jerry Reed had in common is their complete command of at least one (and maybe more) instrument, plus great songwriting and a lot more. People who are naturally funny never have to work at it. And by the way, Ray and Jerry both came out of a fertile Atlanta music scene working for Bill Lowery before they went to Nashville.
It just makes me happy after all these years to see anyone from back then doing it. But the most important point is, and might be about to be lost here, is that HE JUST PUT OUT A BRAND NEW SONG AND IT IS ON OUR SIDE. Listen to it, don’t just make comments about what you already know about Ray. Please understand what this is about.
I would love to listen to it but I have a slow dial-up connection and it would take forever to download it.
The only way to get a fast connection here is via satellite and that is prohibitively expensive.
