MOUNT VERNON, Wash., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A string of lawn gnome disappearances in Washington state was solved when winds blew down a fence around the yard where they were being kept, authorities said.
Lisa Soneda of Mount Vernon said her daughter told her this month that the fence separating her back yard from that of her next-door neighbor had blown down to reveal an unusual sight,

Sounds like a very weird form of kleptomania. If the woman had been stealing to them to resell, it would make some sense, but stealing them just to hide an ever-increasing crowd of them in your own back yard is totally bizarre. And it sounds like they were mainly from people nearby, so it’s not like she could even use them to try to impress her friends with her unusually lavish collection of garden gnomes, because then word would get out and she’d have been promptly caught.
