It's officially 2010 and we want it to be a healthy year. Chocolate is one of those treats that many people crave, and their weight suffers because of it. No more. Try these chocolate treats that won't add on pounds. Instead of going for chocolate substitutes, we recommend the real deal.
Amy Brightfield of Woman's Day has compiled her favorite chocolate snacks, and she's definitely on the mark. Dark chocolate, as she points out, is much better than a lollipop or salt water taffy (or Nerds Rope, or jelly beans...you get the point), and chocolate containing over 60% cacao also happens to be lower in calories.
Brightfield's recommendations include:
Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Singles - Have a real friend hide the rest if you buy the bigger bar, or get the smaller version at 190 calories for the whole thing. 71% cacao.
Raisinets - Fruit and nut done right, especially if you split the small bag of dark chocolate ones.
Green & Blacks Organic Chocolate - some of the tastiest, highest quality dark chocolate out there. You can get a 70% cacao bar that weighs in at 190 calories.
I nominate you for Public Service Award for 2010!
I’m not a big fan of chocolate but I do like the dark stuff that’s slightly bitter.
No I’m not hitting on Michele Obama.
You wouldn’t have a similar link for beer wouldja?

This is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize!
Chocolate covered bacon?
If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve. ;)
But thanks, anyway! :)
No Im not hitting on Michele Obama.
I'd assume not, since Michele is anything BUT slightly bitter... ;-)
Egad. Finally some news I can use. You’re my HERO! BTT
LOL more like baking chocolate.
I heard that a glass of white wine...white only for it to work, and a box of chocolate with a really sincere lover in front of a fire will make for the most wonderful night of lovemaking that would never be forgotten....
I tried it and found Utopia with my lover.
After chasing the wine with a twelve pack of Budweiser! : - D
It was GREAT!
Mmmmmm.... bacon!
>>This is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize!<<
I wanted to give an award WORTH something! (LOL)
Chocklat doesn’t make you gain weight!
I eat tons of it and never gain weight.
I weight the same as I did when I was in high school over 55 years ago, 180#.
Why isn’t this in the Religious Forum?
It was fate!
I LOVE Lindt chocolate. If anyone at work is having a bad day, they know to head to my office and in the top right hand drawer they’ll always find some Lindt. (My chocoholic male employees are no longer embarassed that they have to skip over the tampons to get at it either, LOL!)
We have regular ‘chocolate breaks’ at work when things are really hectic in the spring. It’s great for morale...and now it can be great for our waistlines, too! :)
You know, it just is time for this. Trader Joe’s (for those of you in the West) has delicious dark chocolate wedges. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Think I might have to have one.
Chocolate keeps your endorphines up (so you are in a good mood), so you eat it sacrificially, whether or not you think you SHOULD, for the folks around you.
And I believe the Lord gives us chocolate, coffee, wine ... because He knows that life is hard, just to get us through.
Was the twelve-pack for HER or for YOU? LOL!
LOL! I’ll ping Salvation and see if she thinks it worthy. :)
Raisenettes and those chocolate oranges, good stuff, but don’t wash them down with bourbon.
He does work in mysterious ways! :)
I don't recall..HIC ; )
I’ve tried a few of the high cocoa low sugar dark chocolates, and it’s my favorite, by far. Very strong and pure with just a touch of bitterness. Two or three squares is plenty. Very satisfying!
Well ... now you’ve done it, young lady!!! I’m sitting here now eating semisweet chocolate morsels because that is the only thing I have in the house besides baking chocolate squares. You should be ashamed ... you won’t be, but you should!
I imagine it’s the “sincere lover” part that’s most important! (But white wine & chocolate makes for a good back-up plan, no doubt!)
;-)

Spicy & sweet, classic Mexican ingredients make this deep, dark bar an unexpected revelation. 55% cocoa content Organic Dark Chocolate Bar with cayenne, pumpkin seeds, and cinnamon.
Green & Blacks is great for "everyday."
There are a few people here that I often recognize by their text/grammar/run on sentence structures. There are other people I can easily recognize by the topics of their postings. You fall into the latter category and this is a smooth and creamy example:)
SHEESH, back in my 80’s I had to work at it, but now since I met my mate at 93, I don't pay much attention.
I think that is how it goes though.
She just walked in too, Saturday night, so I am going to be VERY busy for the remainder of the night.
I have a birthday coming up next month too. I hope I make it...
I miss the Hoover days.
Hey Di!
Did ya have a good Christmas?
I musta been a good girl.... I got lots of chocolates. :)
You would kill for it at times wouldn't you. ; )
Beer is proof that G_d loves us, and wants us to be happy. ~ B. Franklin
That would be the FR Resident and Self-Appointed Chocolate Czarina — the lovely and gracious Diana in Wisconsin.
I’d say chocolate Is proof! LOL
Hey Justa! Merry Christmas!
I’d share my lindt dark truffles with you but I ate them all. Oh, wait, I’ll share my... Ooops, ate them all too. What about... Never mind. I had good intentions anyway. :)
I do have some choc chips left. I think...
I’ll eat a truffle to that!
Diana in Wisconsin is, as gracious and appealing as can be on Free Republic, works for Obama???
Who else employs "Czarina's" these days? {; > D
If I have any “chick” genes it manifests itself in my love for chocolate. The darker the better.
I’m almost certain there is a conspiracy for dark chocolate to run milk chocolate out of existence. The dark stuff is showing up everywhere, but with God as my witness, milk chocolate will prevail!
In your dreams, baby! LOL
It’s gotta be dark chocolate, all the way!
Snickers has a new offering with almonds.
Outstandingly magnificant!!
I never took umbrage to triffids myself.
Do triffids have ridges?
Oh, did you say truffles? ~snort
There is a lot of truth in that pic!

Here is an example of actual Healthy Chocolate.
Most people know that dark chocolate is good for you because of media reports about recent studies in medical journals.
They just don’t know why it’s good for you or where you get it.
Check out the link above.
At last, guilt free chocolate.
Yes, two downed!
