I have my sights on 5-6 acres with small house and barn. A couple of cows, a few chickens, a garden and we can live just fine.

Anyone else considering a fortified community? Maybe several hundred acres, armed patrols, even secession on a micro (rather than macro) scale?...Hey, I’m just thinking out loud...
My parents are 77 and 81. They both have good health for now. They are active, and both have fun part time jobs. My dad is a bartender at a local popular bar in a small farming town of 400. He’s their ‘money’ maker.
I am glad someone else sees the reality of the situation. Fox is better but they were cheering on ObamaCare and Obama on election night.
TV is used to enslave us. Changing the channel changes nothing. Sports TV keeps the news propaganda arm in business.
The money I save from no tv will go towards helping conservative candidates including JD Hayworth beat McCain.
Fox is as bad as the rest now.

I watch some mostly at night. History channel, the deadliest catch, dirty jobs, myth busters, a bunch of junk on TLC, like what not to wear, the food network, the old sit-coms and TCM. We’ve been recording those old movies. We have over 1400 movies from the silent era to the better present ones. I never watch news, or fox. I get my news here or on the radio.

That is something that bothers me a great deal about this healthcare bill. Right now, a person could go “galt” with income tax, could live off the land, etc. You still have the problem with property tax (but at least that is local government).
However, if I understand correctly, this healthcare bill is a way for Demonrats to gain control over even those trying to extract from the system. I think the same is true of the EPA regulations that have been proposed on small gardens, and livestock.
I’m stuck in Florida with a disabled husband, can’t sell the house but I put in some fruit trees & will try to have a veggie garden & will not put money in banks anymore.

I know of people, who have home birthed. They have not gotten their kids SS numbers. Back in the old days, I didn’t get one until I needed a job. Wouldn’t it be great not to be in that database?
I agree with you. At this point, though, what most Americans truly waste their money on is electronics and entertainment.
It’s good to know how to sew and can food, etc, but you can start saving money immediately by cancelling cable/satellite TV, using only prepaid cell phone service, etc.
Just about anything that gets paid in the form of a monthly bill and has a early cancellation penalty is crap.
Could a freeper equivalent to craigslist be set up?

and? do they want to pay healthcare for 4 years to be told the money isnt there and that we have to cover 11 million illegals????????think what the democrat party represents and remember there are more non taxpayer voters in the country than than taxpaying voters....which way do you think future voting in this country will go? we have uneducated people in this country and the only 2 words they can read is “free everything”. they will vote to take their own rights away to stay on the government tit...it will never cross their mind that someday there will be no one there to pay for anything.....as for our congressmen....you vote them in and they says screw you and your country...its everyman for himself....
I’m getting to HATE technology. And I’M AN ENGINEER! It’s too much, to fast. We are pretty bare bones. I have an mp3 player to download Mark Levin’s show. That’s about it. We have TV, internet, cell phones (I’d give the phones up if they brought back pay phones). That’s about it.
Oh, they’re completely against this crap. They’re good conservatives.
