Icelandic fissure eruption triggers worries-A unique Iceland volcanic eruption covered by BBC.

The eruption split a 1km chasm in the ice

An Icelandic volcano, dormant for 200 years, has erupted, ripping a 1km-long fissure in a field of ice.

The volcano near Eyjafjallajoekull glacier began to erupt just after midnight, sending lava a hundred metres high.

Icelandic airspace has been closed, flights diverted and roads closed. The eruption was about 120km (75 miles) east of the capital, Reykjavik.

What volcanic scientists fear is the fact that this eruption could trigger an eruption of Katla, one of the most dangerous volcanic systems in the world.

Eruptive events in Eyjafjallajökull are often followed by a Katla eruption. The Laki craters and the Eldgjá are part of the same volcanic system. Insta-melt could occur:

At the peak of the 1755 Katla eruption the flood discharge has been estimated between 200,000–400,000 m³/s; for comparison the combined average discharge of the Amazon, Mississippi, Nile, and Yangtze rivers is about 290,000 m³/s.

More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katla

Video of the eruption:

Volcano Eruption in Eyjafjallajökull Iceland 20 Mars 2010.

The volcano near the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier began to erupt shortly after midnight, leading to road closures in the area.

No one was in immediate danger, but 500 people were being moved from the area.

It is almost 200 years since a volcano near Eyjafjallajokull, 120km (75 miles) east of Reykjavik, last erupted. The last volcanic eruption in the area occurred in 1821.

Volcanic eruptions at high latitudes have a large cooling effect on climate (http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2009/2008JD011222.shtml)

Icelandic volcanism has been relatively quiescent during the past few decades duting which apparent warming has taken place. Co-incidence, correlation or cause-and-effect?

My interest with this thread is the impact on climate change...if any....but I am sure the Climate Alarmists will generate some kind of a scary article from this.

Found this from link at WUWT:

This seems to be in Fimmvorduhals, a ridge between Eyjafjallajokull glacier, and Myrdalsjokull glacier, the eruption is not under ice
so there is not as much risk of flood.
The eruption can be seen from Búrfell from a webcam who monitors Hekla.

I think those timestamps must be Icelandic time.

"What volcanic scientists fear is the fact that this eruption could trigger an eruption of Katla, one of the most dangerous volcanic systems in the world."
Then boom! Thirty years of very cold temperatures in the northern hemisphere. Global cooling.... bye bye global warming morons. Of course this volcano may be pissed off at the US House or Representatives just voting yea for a further mechanism that will bring down the US economy to it's knees. So much for finding a job in the future. Time to cut back even further on employees. It will cost to much to offer them health insurance in the years to come.
Nancy must be so proud.... so how should I say warm and fuzzy and perhaps a bit wet inside..... she is such a good little useful little idiot of Stalin, his former leader Lenin and side kick Trotsky and host of other Soviet oriented and later communists henchmen.
Perhaps the volcano roars in glee.... Fits the times.

Is that Iceland or an underground coal seam fire in Pennsylvania?

Damn. Ernie. It looks like the heart of Nancy Pelosi. Raging with hate for the American Republic. It is a picture of her as she lays blazing hot on her belly on a Lenin prayer rug... giving thanks for all the lemings she leads on her side of the House, for being such literal assholes. With that being said. I believe it is time for me to hit the sack. The weekend at the HD with the roaming hords of folks that are not capable of counting to ten on their toes plus the House vote to screw America has basically taken me out. I need some sleep. You take care.
But I would remiss if I did not comment on the Iceland volcano. I would hope the poor folks that live in that region do not have over whelming grieve, having quickly move away from the hell storm that has come upon them.

What should concern everyone is whether or not this is the beginning of a shield or rift volcano. That could get very nasty and Iceland is just the spot for it.

Centralia is, and there is also a mine fire outside of Wilkes-Barre near I-81 that has been burning for 95 years. http://www.undergroundminers.com/laurelrun.html

That is for sure. Ironically I did not have a to bad day at work. It seemed I helped mostly people who could count to ten on their toes. A few even understood the basic electrical principles I parrot as how to properly wire their homes up etc..
As far as this volcano goes. Perhaps in the days to come we shall get a feel as how it may further alter the northern hemisphere climate for many years. As we are aware such events can further drop the global temps. Big Al Bore and his adherents may be further forced into hiding in the days to come.

Sadly as you are aware. The hard working Republican oriented folks will be he ones that will suffer. The unions will keep a strong hand in who stays around. But I fear in the many business like Home Depot with no unions... they will simply cut back as required. Same goes for the small and medium business. How about the many local doctor offices etc., that will have to drop more employees. The lists are long as who will get hammered the worst.
With that. Have a great upcoming day. Yeah! I got a day off.
