Widow takes ashes on world tour

A British widow said she took her husband's ashes on the 60,000-mile world tour he always wanted in life but never had because of his fear of flying.

Rita Munns, 63, of Exning, England, said her husband, Richard, had regretted not traveling more during his life but was prevented from flying more than twice in his lifetime because of his fear, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

Munns said Richard died from cancer in 2007 and she set out to take his ashes on a three-year vacation to countries including China, Italy, Turkey, France, New Zealand and Israel. She said she scattered a little of his ashes in each of the destinations.

"I do this because if he had lived for longer we would have tried to travel to all kinds of places together but sadly that didn't happen," Munn said. "I had Richard for 40 years, which makes me so lucky because we were total soul mates, he was such a good man and this is my way of giving something back."

Munns said her world tour has also raised $15,600 for St. Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury St. Edmunds, England, where her husband was treated before his death.

Grief can really be powerful.

God bless this woman.

If you tried distributing someone’s ashes like this around the US, you’d probably get arrested under Zero’s new Health Code Violations.

That’s an inexpensive way to travel. I’ll keep it in mind.

Grief can really be powerful.
My in-laws slept in separate bedrooms. He died ten years ago, she, just a month ago.
In cleaning the house, we discovered she had never touched a thing in his bedroom since the day he died - not even a shoelace.
Grief is one thing, mental illness, another.

This story would be a lot funnier if someone had broken into her house, stolen the urn, and a year later there’d be a knock on the door, she’d open it, there’d be the urn, along with an envelope of photos of the urn at various tourist destinations around the world — the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Stonehenge, the South Pole...

Yup - and then there’s the snail joke

“He opens the door, looks down and theres the snail. The snail looks up at him, and says “Hey! What the hell was that all about?”
