.....because I’m rejoicing that Jesus is my savior and God is sovereign. That sovereignty part is about all that keeps me hopeful these days! I read Psalm 2 often.

When I registered back in 1998 (11 years ago!) the Monica scandal and assorted mysteries were the main topic on the forum.

I chose Miss Marple because she was a detective who liked gardening and sensible shoes, just like me! I have retained the Miss Marple name all these years.

Thanks for asking!

A lot of my Chinese students persistently volunteered that I was the MOST KIND, CHIVALROUS PERSON they’d ever known—Chinese or Western.

I wanted a short, unusual sort of screen name.

I’ve long enjoyed the Don Quixote story.

Liberty - freedom to act in a moral manner (to be distinguished from ‘license’ - freedom without moral restraint in the language of our forebears. A distinction lost on most modern folks.)

Brilliant point.

Shortly after my birth, my father raised me toward the heavens on a starlit night and proclaimed...No, no wait, that was the miniseries "Roots". Sorry about that, it's just that events in Roots mirror much of my life, and I get mixed up.

My dad actually said "That one, well, someday he'll bury his guns in preparation of the coming of a Kenyan Marxist Usurper".

Years ago, shortly before 9/11/01, I bought my first AR-15 (in Cali no less!). I was very proud and joyous that it came into my life, and viewed it not merely as a hunk of metal and plastic, but rather a device designed to protect liberty and freedom, both my own and that of my countrymen.

Thus, I picked as my very first FR screen name AR15_Patriot. I was a child then. Now I see the world in an entirely different way. I'm still an idiot sometimes, though.

I joined originally in November 2000 as Mr. Kobayashi, after my favorite character in “The Usual Suspects.” After Jim Rob banned me for insulting Linda Tripp in 2001, I rejoined as Clemenza, after Pietro Clemenza, Vito Corleone’s loyal lieutenant in the Godfather. As much as I despise the real life mafia, the character of Clemenza appealed to me because of his intelligence, loyalty and ability to be calm under pressure. Unfortunately, I have often been unClemenza in terms of losing my cool (and my sanity) on this site over the years...

I copied from my “About” page:

I use the name “gitmo” because I grew up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the late 50’s through the late 60’s. We were there during the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missle Crisis. ‘Twas a great place for kids to grow up.

I know mine is weird and unusual - is the name of a character in a story I wrote, but he is something of a ‘free spirit’ who hates tyranny. It was also all I could think of at the time. It used to be YrWorship, a reference to a Star Wars line, but it got lost during the Big Crash on Free Republic some ten years ago, and I wasnt able to recover it. So I had to pick out something different. Im not as clever as a lot of people here on FR, so I chose what I was familiar with.
