Good morning gardeners! If you are a gardener or you are just starting out and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in and enjoy the friendly discussion. There are many Freepers from all over the Good Ol USA that are willing and eager to help. The only way to become a good gardener is to get out there and start a garden.
Wow! The weather here in Central Mississippi has been just beautiful this past week. My tomato and other plants have been hardening off outside all week and for the last four days I have left them out overnight. I am ready to get them transplanted into the garden and hope to get started tomorrow.
Weekly Gardening Thread
I hope all of you will stop by.
This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.
If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.
Morning.
Heading out to spread some gravel around. THen fix the waterfall by the pond...THen.....Wonder what the Good Lord will put on my list today.
Rain tonight!
Good morning. The weather here in Wisconsin is crazy. THe thermometer in my front yard recorded 90F yesterday about 3 PM. I fully expected some kind of storm to follow. Last evening felt like a balmy summer night, light breeze, no chill in the air at all. I’m not complaining, but my seedlings (those that are still living) really want to go in the ground, but my fence is not built yet and rabbits are everlywhere. So, I’ll have to try to keep them alive indoors a bit longer.
Sure enough, the next few days are not expected to get above the mid 50s with lows in the low-mid 30s.
Nice weather here except for the dang pollen.
Got a line on a nursery with tomatillos so we are headed that way today sometime.
Going to put my hubby to work this week end putting up 3 raised beds, like the ones you have on your homepage. I showed your pics to him, so he knows what I want.
Good Morning gardeners...Rainy and cold here in MA, but I’m happy with the rain because I’ve just moved and/or divided several plants.
I’m a frequent reader of the Gardening Thread, but now I have a question. Does anyone know how to get rid of Gill over the Ground (aka Creeping Charlie)in a lawn. Scott’s Plus Halts has not touched it and because I have a large lawn, isolated spraying would not be practical.
Ho, ho, ho...a little dusting of snow on the ground this morning; and some of my tomatoes have buds. Far cry from the 87 degrees we hit last week...
It’s been beautiful here in St. Louis - lots of pollen tho! I spent my day off yesterday putting in 2 knockout double pink rose bushes and 1 pink lacecap hydrangea. Planted some containers and put a miniature yellow rose into my front bed. I’ve been babying it in a container for 2 years but I’m putting it out to fend for itself.
My very small (I live in a shotgun house)planting area is pretty much done for now. Maybe a couple more containers in the shade corner but not much else to do.
Oh, the fun part about yesterday was I did all my planting with a hand trowel as I forgot to ask my friend to bring up a shovel for me!! Ouch! Thank heaven for good gloves :)
We have had nice dry weather in the 80’s with good breeze. It’s so nice to see things finally drying out after the disaster we had last year.
Broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi plants going out this weekend. Going to put in some real early tomatoes. All my other spring stuff getting planted.
I see by post 6 you have a gardening homepage might I have the address
Please add me to your ping. We are nowhere near ready to transplant tomatoes yet here in central Illinois, but I hope to risk it after the weekend. I have set out my begonias and they seem to be doing well.
This year I’m going to plant tomatoes to can for sauce, jalapenos which I also can, as well as pickles. Want to put out some sugar snap peas to freeze.
Thank you.

Those raised beds were 4' X 4' and as simple and basic as I could make them. I just used cardboard to cover the grass and set them on it and filled them with soil and plants.
Wishing you much luck with yours!
Just click on my user name at the bottom of this post and you will be taken to my FReeper homepage.
JANE, Y'ALL HAVE
ADDED TO THE WEEKLY GARDENING PING LIST
Hey everybody got a question for you. I bought some dwarf hollyhock seeds and plan on planting them next to snapdragons and morning glories. Will these guys co-exist peacefully? Thanks!
I planted bell and jalapeno pepper last weekend. All the tomato plants are growing like crazy. The older ones are in full bloom already. My spinach is still producing well and we have at least one or two meals with fresh spinach per week. The leaf lettuce starting to go to seed, so it will probably come out later this month.
