Oh, to have been at Yankee Stadium on a perfect day in April, 1940!

. . . when the baseball season finally was resumed before 7,000 frostbitten fans . . .

The perfect days may be a month or so off.

Yes, but it was the ORIGINAL Yankee Stadium, complete with poles and posts to block the view.

Men in the stands wearing straw hats and ties, behaving like gentlemen, smoking cigars...

Not like today, when many fans run the risk of being vomited upon...

And NO SMOKING!!!

Its probably been mentioned before, but from http://www.nndb.com/sports/931/000085676/

“Boston Bees. SPORTS FRANCHISE. The Boston Braves were dubbed the Bees from 1936 to 1940, before resuming their more familiar Braves nickname.”

Braves being a racest, politically incorrect term for Native Americans.

And no dot racing. Remember when you could carry on a conversation with the person next to you without having to shout to be heard over the nonstop shrieking of speakers placed every 20 feet?
