A Maplewood police officer was shot and killed in St. Paul this morning, and a suspect was shot during the manhunt on the city's East Side.
An officer said over his radio about 10:30 a.m. that he'd shot one of the suspects. The officer was not injured, St. Paul police spokesman Sgt. Paul Schnell said.
Witnesses said the suspect was killed at the intersection of Ivy Avenue and Etna Street, though Schnell would not confirm that. The suspect's body was reportedy lying in Etna Street.
The search continues for a second suspect, Schnell said.
Police officers from several agencies have been in the area since early this morning, looking for two men suspected of stealing a car and then fatally shooting a Maplewood officer.
Maplewood police were called about 6:30 a.m. to a man who said he had been carjacked. He reported that there were two male suspects and that one, if not both of them were armed with handguns, Schnell said.
Police were dispatched and searching for the suspects. A few minutes before 7 a.m. a Maplewood officer was in his squad near the Gateway Trail at Arlington Avenue, when someone approached him and shot him, Schnell said.

Isn't this a pretty nice area for two separate police killings?
I just read that the officer has two daughters. Prayers for this poor family of a real hero.
