No I first signed up for my SS on long Island where we were living I believe I was about 14 or 15 as I was working self employed as a commerical clammer on the great south bay and was selling my catch at a market. After a couple of years I was working for someone else at a factory also on long island.

Don’t think the first 3 indicate where you were born, but where you were when you applied for it.

FrogDad was born in Mass., I was born in Tenn., we both applied for and received our SS cards in Calif. Both of our cards begin with the Calif range.

They don’t per se. It is just that the first two digits will tell you in what state the person was when the SSN was issued. There are places on the internet where you can enter a SSN and get an estimate of in what state and what year it was issued. I’m sorry I don’t have a ready link for you.

Well, you certainly seem to have found one. This whole thread is centered around an alleged Google conspiracy to hide the Obama SS number discussion.

Personally, I have no idea whether Obama is using a bogus SS number, or multiple bogus SS numbers, but I would really like to see some actual evidence one way or another. An observation of "strange behavior" by Google is not evidence of anything.

I am watching this situation with interest, but I haven't seen any reason to jump to any particular conclusion.
