Which caliber of handgun ammunition is most available and what are the comparative costs of each?
Bonus question: Which is easiest to reload for?

.32 is extremely discreet and in the crisis was more available than the overly popular .380.
Wal Mart had .40 sw available during the crisis every time I looked.
If you follow the herd, their favorite ammo will sell out first thats my 2 cents.
.22 is the easiest to come by and dirt cheap. Of course, you know that isn’t a real suggestion as to what to by unless you just want to do some plinking. Reloading- fuggidaboutit.
As far as ease of reloading goes, I started with .44 mag and once you get the hang of things it's a piece of cake. .45 was the second, and it's also very easy. In my experience the smaller in caliber you go the more tedious the task becomes, but that's strictly my opinion.
Straight wall pistol cases are pretty straightforward. No case lubrication is required, but it is a 3 die process.
So that's my answer to the bonus question.
I've got a 45 and a SW 40, I prefer to carry the 40. I can shoot it accurately at a much higher rate of fire while still sending 180 grain bullets down range.
That said the best gun is the one you have WITH YOU. I carry a .380 pocket pistol ALL THE TIME. When I carry my other gun, I carry TWO. If you don't get a pocket pistol, you won't have it on you when you need it. Like answering your front door....

During the ammo ahortage earlier in the year, 9mm luger was the most available ammo in TX. Everyone and their dog was looking for .45 down here.
In Arizona discreet is not a requirement, I carry a pocket cannon, a .357 snub nose.

Kel-tec .380 with hollow points here. I NEVER leave home without it. It’s never even out of reach. Lifetime warranty and made in Cocoa FL (my state). Can’t even tell it’s in my pocket.
I also have a small 9mm that I ‘thought’ of concealing. Forget about it. No way I’m lugging some 5lb. hardware around all the time with me.
And if I run out of ammo, I can use it for a club!

If your weapon is a Glock, I’d stay away from the 40 for reloading. 9mm is very easy to reload especially if you have a progressive press. The caliber uses very little powder and is fun to reload. The 45 is also an easy caliber to reload. As far as prices, I wouldn’t know. I reload.

Here's my tip of the month: there is still a great pistol and ammo deal out there waiting for you. If you have waited too long to arm up, or if you want one more, look at the excellent milsurp CZ-52 pistol and 7.62X25 Tokarev ammo.
You can get a CZ-52 for about $200 at any gun show or at many gun stores. You can also find them by googling around the internet. The ammo can be had for as low as 11 cents a bullet in any quantity you want. Extra mags are from $12 to $20 each.
The milsurp ammo is full metal jacket, firing an 85gr bullet at 1,600fps. These will go through car doors, kevlar helmets, kevlar vests etc like an icepick through butter. OTOH, they will also go through one bad guy and maybe hit a good guy behind him.
However, you can buy hollowpoints ("Wolf Gold" with brass shells) for about $19/50, or half the price of comparable 9mm JHPs. My test "Wolf Gold" JHP ammo expanded to .60 caliber, the same as my test 9mm JHPs.
So for $400, you could buy a CZ-52, 1,500 rounds of assorted ammo, and a few extra mags. OR, you could buy about 2/3s of a "brand name" pistol, and no ammo.
It's just a thought. This is a great bargain. The ammo is cheap and plentiful at all of the internet catalog sites. Don't wait, the libtards will soon slam the door on foreign gun and ammo imports, and the prices will go way up.
Another benefit of this pistol is that it is very accurate, with very fine sights. WIth this flat-shooting ammo, you can hit at 100 yards with ease. Downsides are brittle firing pins (buy a spare, and don't dry fire) and a decocking function that you should not trust. Just lower the SA hammer like a 1911. The safety works like a 1911, so if you are used to 1911s, it will be very easy to use the CZ-52
