So yesterday, I went to the shooting range for the very first time in my life. If you had asked me 10 years ago would I go to the range and decide to buy a guy, I would have laughed. But times change and so have I.
I have to say, it was pretty interesting. I'm not sure what I expected. But it was loud - even with the hearing protection. I tried 3 different guns - I liked the revolver better than the 9mm's. I did keep my target. I can see that this is going to become a part of my routine now.
The folks at the range were really nice and gave me a lot of good advice.
So, I need to take a class and decide what to buy. I'm kind of leaning towards a revolver - seems a little bit easier maintenance for this newbie.
I grew up in the people's republic of Maryland and was quite the liberal in college. Ironically enough, it was contemplating the 2nd amendment that started me on the road back from the dark side. So, I guess the circle is now complete.
You’re very welcome...there’s more out there, but those were the ones that came to mind.
Shhhh.....
I was tryin’ to cover fer ya, bro
Nah - a good holster can actually save your life... :)
Hey SF, thanks for the tip. I missed it, but I did get a lot done today that I’ve put off for weeks.
You a bad moterscooter LoL
Scott is right about that. That’s really the only one you’ll need or want.
Was Tom on today?
I cant believe I fudged that.
Oh well, ya cant depend on me for nuthin... hardly ever...
If you get one of these, you won’t need a holster.

There are days when I like to attach one of those to my car to make my commute easier. LOL
I pulled up a webcast, expecting a reload, and about fell out of my chair that it was live. Can’t blame you for figurin’ otherwise.
I went to the Arch yesterday, and being a federal monument, I locked my gun in the car like a good little citizen. I was waiting in the line when they announced that we had to take our belts off to go through the security checkpoint!
Well, I took the belt off and left the CBST on. I set off the metal detector, got wanded, and the guard discovered it. He was poking his hand in it, through it, over it, under it, every which way - it thoroughly confused him like I had an invisible gun there.
I was by myself, but I would have been “outed” had I been with someone else who was anti-gun. I learned my lesson!
I was figuring it would be a reload but I cant believe I didnt monitor the show.
Ah well, I guess my head was elsewhere.
I hope he gave Obama some chops. I imagine Louisiana is disgruntled with him today.
In ST. Louis?
I got my CB belt 3 days ago. That is one heavy duty belt.
Still waiting on the ST. I’m guessing it’ll show up about Wednesday.
I’ve got some holsters for sale..........LOL
I was down the market getting barbacoa and tecate beer. I forgot all about the show.
I apologize.,
Beer? No apologies needed. LOL!
I will check out the podcast tomorrow.
The barbacoa is nice too!
I honestly forget that I have it on sometimes - it distributes the weight very well around the side of the body. The first couple days it was noticeable because it was so stiff, but it’s conformed to my body now and just feels right.
I’ve had other IWB holsters and it’s near impossible to reholster one-handed, but this one is a dream. It is certainly the quickest draw of any holster I’ve ever owned!
With regards to the spent casings landing on you, here’s a hard lesson I’ve taught to all my female friends and students over the last 18 years or so of taking guests and students to the range:
Wear a blouse or shirt that comes up to your neck. Wear safety glasses that come in tight to your face. And lastly, but very importantly, wear shoes that completely cover your feet. Fashion isn’t your top consideration here.
Spent casings can be quite hot and burn you when they bounce off the partition walls at indoor ranges or off posts/benches at outdoor ranges. I saw one man get shot in the gut by a gal who had NO intention of doing so because she became wildly distracted by a hot piece of brass that went down her shirt, lodged in her bra, then was dropped down onto her feet as the woman was pulling at her shirt. She was wearing only flip-flops. It was at this point she discharged the pistol at the poor fellow who was trying to help her. He lived, but not without getting a air evac from the range to the hospital.
The young lady in question had been a thoroughly competent and safe shooter until such time as a piece of hot brass went down her blouse.
.22LR casings are some of the most apt to get bounced into places to cause burns, in my experience. I’ve seen them get bounced behind loose-fitting safety glasses, for example.
