Man tased twice when deputy interrupts couple having sex on the lawn
The News Tribune (Tacoma) ^ | 6/9/2010

Posted on 06/09/2010 10:36:58 AM PDT by llevrok

A Thurston County sheriff's deputy tased a man twice early this morning after he interrupted the man having sex with a woman outside a home in the 14000 block of Vail Cutoff Road, according to the sheriff's department.

Patrick Bergin, 21, of Yelm, was placed under arrest on suspicion of third-degree assault, Thurston County Chief Criminal Deputy James Chamberlain said.

According to Chamberlain:

The incident began around 2 a.m. when a deputy was responding to a complaint of loud music outside a residence on Vail Cutoff Road. As the patrol car approached the residence, its lights passed over a couple having sex on the lawn.

The couple began to put their clothes on, and the deputy approached them to ask for identification. The woman who was with Bergin screamed and tried to run away. Bergin approached the deputy, and ignored commands to sit down. Both the man and the woman appeared "highly intoxicated."

The deputy believed that Bergin was taking an aggressive stance, and believed that he would be assaulted, so he shot the barbs from his Taser at Bergin. Bergin ripped the barbs of the Taser from his chest, and continued to approach the deputy. As Bergin continued to approach the deputy, the deputy reloaded the Taser and shot it again. The Taser's barbs struck Bergin in the arm. Bergin was subdued and placed under arrest for third-degree assault.

Chamberlain said Tuesday that it is very unusual for a person to be able to rip the barbs from a Taser off of his or her body while receiving an electrical jolt

He must've gotten such a charge out of the humping that he didn't feel the initial taser all that much . . .

Fire water can do that to a guy . . .

I’m not quite seeing where he did anything to “assault” anyone - even if he did “advance”.

When did the English language become gibberish?

So who was the third degree assault he was charged with. The woman or the police officer.

The story leaves a lot to be desired. The story say’s she tried to get away, did she or didnt she.? Maybe the guy was only trying to cover her escape. The story says it is unusual that a perp can tear out the taser barbs while being tasered, obviously they dont know the fired up nature of a guy who is about to orgasm and is then interrupted.

An incident like this occurred in the early 70s at the Marine base where I was stationed. At about 2 am the MPs came upon the Staff Sergeant manager of the club on the front lawn going to it with the female Corporal assistant manager. They were so drunk and into what they were doing that taps on the shoulder and repeated verbal admonitions did not phase them. The MPs finally shined their flashlight directly in their eyes and the sergeant jumped up and kept repeating to them “don’t tell my wife”. He was lucky that they didn’t have tasers at the time.

Actually, I'm thinking I should buy a taser in case I run into a couple having sex in public. I could use it on gay pride parade day too.

The dictionary is your friend. Assault is not the same as Battery. Assault can result from the reasonable assumption that one is about to be battered. No gibberish here.

Something is not true merely because you suggest that it is. In adult conversation it is incumbent upon the person who postulates the argument to provide supporting data and cite sources. So, your first comment was juvenile, your second comment was both juvenile and without merit and this comment suggesting that I have no objectivity based on the fact that my son is a cop is speculation at best. Maybe I can’t stand my son and am ashamed that he is a cop. How would you know? You are a buffoon posing as an adult. Shoo.

Well I’m sorry that you might be ashamed of your son. I know I am. And, if he carries a tazer, then he is a coward, also. What did the police do before tazers?

I’s seen the clips of unwarranted tazing. I tend to paint with a broad brush. I do not care to search for the three good cops in the country.

Sorry again about your embarrassing son.

“I’s seen the clips of unwarranted tazing. I tend to paint with a broad brush. I do not care to search for the three good cops in the country”.

You've seen clips?. Well, that right there makes you an expert.
You paint with a broad brush? That just makes you an idiot.

The truth is that I am extremely proud of my son. He is a fine young man who serves his country and his community. Unlike you, someone who likely lives in his mother's basement playing world of warcraft and wondering what it feels like to be a grown man.
So keep making your ignorant, uninformed criticisms and accusations. Smugly tell yourself what an independent thinker you are while convincing yourself that you really got me with your razor sharp repartee (look it up).
The next time that you or a family member or friend are mugged or in an accident or burglarized, hold true to your convictions and refrain from calling the corrupt, blood thirsty police. Any other action on your part would just be hypocritical.

“The next time that you or a family member or friend are mugged or in an accident or burglarized, hold true to your convictions and refrain from calling the corrupt, blood thirsty police.”

Your great son would only show up AFTER an incident. They protect NOONE. They serve NOONE but themselves. I know reserve police that will take off of a 15 dollar/hour job to be a play cop for half the money.

Police are grateful to be paid for what they do. Most would do it for free. Some will even pay to do it. It’s a power trip. And, don’t even try to tell me your son is not on a power trip. It’s not possible, or believable.

Wake up and smell the roses. When has a cop ever prevented any crime? Name it. All they do is react afterward, and find someone to shoot with the tazer. That’s about it.

A cop’s main goal.......find any reason to taze someone.

Well I have to admit that there is really no way to beat you in an argument. You certainly do your research and stick to the topic at hand. The best part is how you refuse to muddy the waters with a single factual statement. Who needs ‘em anyway. Just make things up and believe it with all your heart and you win the argument!! Woohoo. I concede to your superior intellect and life experience. Congratulations.
