Man Kills Self With Homemade Guillotine

A depressed Russian engineer built a macabre homemade guillotine to commit suicide in his bedroom, Pravda reported Tuesday.

Troubled Albert Repin told his parents he was building a closet at their Moscow home.

But behind his locked bedroom door, the 47-year-old divorced man was secretly building a chilling replica of the 18th century killing machine -- famously used to behead enemies of the French Revolution.

Repin spent several days assembling his DIY guillotine out of plywood, rope, and metal sheeting.

Finally, he climbed into position before cutting the rope to release the heavy, makeshift blade.

"The guillotine did not cut off his head completely only because the metal was not sharpened," a local police spokesman said.

Repin's parents asked his brother to kick down the bedroom door when he wouldn't respond to calls.

The shocked sibling burst in to find Repin's body slumped beside the horrifying execution device, Pravda said.

Relatives say he never got over his divorce, which happened several years ago.

I think the divorce was just the final rung of a very broken ladder. He has more general issues, probably like me.

Poor guy was so eager to end it all that he couldn’t wait until he had sharpened the blade.

I need to get to bed, but if you don’t mind, I’ll say an extra prayer for you.

All that work and he didn’t even sharpen it? What a dope...

Sometimes, a detail or two escapes you when you are preoccupied.

OK I guess if you are going to "off yourself" you might as well do it with some style.

Sad to see a human so depressed he can't stand living but apparently this guy was serious about doing it right and quick.

Prayers for him and his family.

The idiot should have tested it on his EX first, then decided if he wanted to experience it personally.

I feel that way sometimes. I’m just too cowardly to kill myself.

Me too, until I started thinking of all the reasons to live. Just the thoughts of being there to see Barry voted out in 2012 should be reason enough to hang in there. Think of the parties we'll have after he and the other traitors are convicted.

The only thing certain in life is change, and not all bad. (Not Obama “change”, but things get different.) Some change is bad, some good. Sometimes the bad is dominant, but others the good is. It is what you will make of it, to lessen the bad, to further enhance the good. And amidst it all, there are blessings to be counted. I pray you find your blessings, great and small, and that they multiply.

Man Slices Own Head Off in Supermarket Suicide

May 7, 9:16 am ET

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) - A South African man died trying to cut his own head off with a butcher’s band saw in a major supermarket, police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent Jay Naicker said the Shoprite Checkers store in Richards Bay had been ready to close on Monday when the man wandered in and headed for the meat department. “He just walked in, went to the band saw machine and switched it on,” Naicker told Reuters. “Apparently he knew what he was doing. He put his neck to the blade and it cut about half way through before he fell to the floor.”

Naicker said the man, later identified as 31-year-old Emmanuel Gumbi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said police had turned up no motive for the suicide, which stunned staff and shoppers at the store in northern Kwazulu-Natal province.
