Newsweek article is the BEST one on Palin yet!
vanity / Lisa Miller

Leave it to a liberal to put into words what makes Palin so special and why so many of us Christian women love her and fiercely pray for her. There are several threads up already linking to the article, but here are some of the best excerpts:

When asked why she loves Sarah Palin, a conservative Christian woman will point you to Proverbs 31. There, you'll find a wife and mother who adores her husband, works the fields, rises before dawn, "makes her arms strong," feeds the poor, helps the needy, has a head for business, and wears beautiful clothes. No exhausted careerist is she: the Proverbs 31 woman laughs easily; her children are happy. Christian women have long puzzled in their Bible study groups over how she does it, and in Palin they finally have an example—not just for themselves, but for their daughters.

Like many evangelicals, Garza believes a great cosmic battle is underway for the soul of America and that Palin has been singled out by God for leadership: "The anointing on her is so strong," she says. Assaults on Palin by the press only heighten Garza's conviction, for as any Christian knows, martyrs most deserve to gain God's kingdom. "She's just fearless," Garza says. "Jesus said, 'They persecuted me; they'll persecute you.' "

To millions of women, Palin's authenticity makes her a sister in arms—"Sisters!" she called out in Washington, as if at a revival—a beautiful, fearless, principled fighter who shares their struggles. To a smaller number, she is a prophet, ordained by God for a special role in the cosmic battle against the forces of evil. A 2009 profile in the Christian magazine Charisma compared Palin to the Old Testament's Queen Esther, who saved her people, in this case the Jews, from annihilation.

Abortion, the cause around which the religious right was built two generations ago, seems to be reemerging as a potent political issue as well (though the oil spill, terrorism, and the global economy may still overshadow it in the voting booth). Eleven states have passed anti-abortion laws since the beginning of the year, and 370 bills have been introduced in state legislatures, according to the Guttmacher Institute. American women are more likely to call themselves "pro-life" (48 percent, up from 42 percent in 2001, according to Gallup)...

With her new faith-based message, Palin gathers up the Christian women that traditional feminism has left behind.

And no this is not to say every woman should now run for President and have five kids. It’s just showing that for far too long, both Christians AND non-Christians have been guilty of putting women in boxes that God simply did not create for us!

Just read through the Bible and marvel at the amazing ways GOD has used individual women to carry out His plan...No two women in the Bible are alike! :)

The thing about it is, just because you are pro life doesn't mean you can't be pro gun, pro strong defense, pro capitalism and low spending and taxes, and have common sense enough to allow skimmers from other countries to skim away at the largest oil spill in history. This stuff isn't rocket science, but as we see with Obama, not everyone has even common sense. We could throw a dart in the phone book and beat Obama as president. He's not only an idiot, he hates America and is hell bent on destroying it in 4 years. Right now, just a person that doesn't hate America could be enough. Lets see how the Jews think after Israel has a mushroom cloud over it and Obama applauds it. Obama got 70-80% Jewish votes.

PS. I'm sorry for that racist rant. I've already been told I can't be negative over a rock headed black commie and not be racist, so I'm sure he's doing OK, I just can't see it through my bigoted eyes.

I know. I don’t think she’s read the article in full and I of course don’t agree with the cover, but the content of it is great. :)

Not really, it’s another hit piece on Sarah and religious Americans. The whole thing reeks of snark, and its author is a known liberal hack journalist.

There are aspects of snark about it to be sure (picture on the cover included) but overall it offers one of the most thoughtful and in-depth perspectives on Palin and her impact I've read.
