Vuvuzela fatwa: United Arab Emirates bans the loud plastic horns
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 07/09/10 | AP

The horns that have blared at World Cup matches in South Africa make an unholy racket — according to a religious edict in the United Arab Emirates.

A fatwa by the UAE's General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments declares that the now-famous blast from the plastic vuvuzela is not permitted in the Gulf country if it exceeds 100 decibels — about the sound of a passing train.

Here’s a fatwa I can get behind.

I agree with the muzzies on this one.

I’d ban the headchoppers ugly call to prayer (which in reality is a call to slaughter innocents) before I’d ban vuvuzelas, as obnoxious as the latter are.

OTOH, the muezzin's call to prayer is just ducky. /s

Really good idea!

I was really disappointed today to learn of a New York Racing Association (NYRA - the folks who run Saratoga racing) video featuring Vuvuzelas around Belmont Park that someone there must have thought was funny.

I've long been a fan of the NYRA but recently they seem more about destroying horse racing than promoting it. Anyone who thinks these vuvuzelas at a race track might be amusing is seriously brain dead.

I’m sure it’s done for all the wrong reasons (like not to interfere with the prayer calls), but I support it anyway. Once in a while ti=o use a horn is one thing, a constant, unending sound of a plane taking off is quite another.

Let's see: holy racket or unholy racket? Holy racket or unholy racket? One of life's difficult decisions. They do strike the muzzies below the belt though.

An American soldier stationed in Germany threatened his neighbors with an ax over the constant noise from their World Cup vuvuzelas, police confirmed Friday.

Several weeks ago, my wife and I went to a restaurant in the town where I live. I heard this sound and kept looking around, then finally after an annoying half hour of it, I blurted out WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SOUND? My wife said “I think it is coming from the television!”

It was awful. The next night we went to another restaurant, and as soon as I opened the door to walk in, I heard that bloody racket. The woman was going to seat us right under the television! I pointed to the furthest table in the restaurant.

Today, I am in Miami International Airport, and the sound of them on the televisions they have turned up is really annoying. I have to wear earphones and lieten to music...

On a funnier side, I saw a YouTube video called “A game we hope never takes off: Vuvuzela Master”,,,

I could only watch about 30 seconds, but it was enough to get the point.

What? Are they afraid that muslims will mistake it for their call to worship and pray at the wrong time?

Otherwise, I’d have a hard time finding fault with this one.

This makes two now (the Iran banning mullet haircuts)

*sigh*

Only an official of the death cult can say something about the danmed horns. If normal people said anything, they would be called racist.

Three seconds is my limit. How many deaths have vuvzelas caused? When will the carnage stop?
