CORAL GABLES, Fla.- A Florida woman whose dog was killed by a crocodile is urging the city of Coral Gables to put up warning signs for other pet owners along the canals.

Adriana Salcedo, whose Jack Russell terrier was killed by a crocodile earlier this week, said she is going door-to-door collecting signatures on a petition. The petition asks city officials to install signs along the canals warning pet owners of the crocodiles' presence, WSVN-TV, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., reported Friday.

Salcedo said she will deliver the petition to Coral Gables City Hall once she collects at least 100 signatures.

I’m wondering why they can’t put up their own signs? Why does the government have to get involved?

Blam, I guess you could keep shooting gators or you could give up your fire pond.

BTW, our youngest's girlfriend's dad just got a Kentucky Coon Hound. They have to be RUN ~ guy had about two dozen of them near where I grew up. Sometimes he'd turn a bunch loose to run with me on a bicycle.

They are reputed to JUMP 20 FT HIGH so you have to keep them in large pens on the backporch.

"...In order to protect their pets, pet owners should keep their pets away from the water or water’s edge, on a leash or in a fenced area carry firearms and when confronted - blast away with extreme prejudice."

Yep, that's a croc. So is "relocating" the damn things.

I was golfing the other day and I darn near stepped on one - a big one. It scared the white off my golf ball.

My cousin who now lives in Panama owned a sizeable amount of property about 10 minutes from the airport in Ft. Myers. His neighbor decided to dig some ponds behind his house and had to rid the property of a bunch of gators...........

So lets assume you live where this person did, what's the general attitude towards these alligators? If they decided to start shooting these things with say a .22 at close range, would the neighbors report them?

Sure, put up a sign every 20 feet or so...

Don't be absurd. 30 feet.

The lake is 17 acres on a 385 acre parcel.

Catch and release is for fish, NOT for dangerous predators.

A CEO retired to Sanabel, joined the Sanabel Conservancy, and was killed by a gator while walking his dog.

Had the enviro-whackos (like the gator dinner under discussion) not forbidden hunting/shooting of any gator seen as a risk to a citizen or their animals, these tragedies would not occur.

Contrary to enviro-whacko dogma, AgencyPersons really can’t create a Miami version of the Garden of Eden

Therefore, despite all the bureaucratic bafflegab from AgencyPersons, ParcMan, even ParcGirl, huge hungry reptiles do not live in peace with food animals like dogs, and humans.

Only regular applications of gunpowder and hot lead keeps predatory beasts afraid of man. The reality is that a predator either is afraid of man or is calculating man’s caloric content.

Problem: “had to rid the property of a bunch of gators...........”

Solution: Tell Bubba they are good to eat with BBQ sauce, they are out of season.

Problem solved.

Have a case of long neck Bud and you will be invited to the BBQ.

;-)

I agree with your statement but I'm not sure that gators or crocs have ever had a fear of anything..........They just sit, wait and feed on anything that comes within range.

Should have been hunted to extinction.
All of them- crocks and gators. Worthless. Completely worthless.

Well, one can see that you sir, have never had a properly slow-cooked, hickory barbecued alligator tail.
Alligators can be wonderful...

And don't get me started on fashion accessories... my favorite belt cost me $100.00 and is pure alligator. I'm told it is illegal to wear through customs...

"If they decided to start shooting these things with say a .22 at close range, would the neighbors report them? "

It was Hilton Head Island. So, I'm guessing that they would say something. I usually keep my eyes pealed for gators, but this one was so close to a house, and a bit of a ways from the closest canal, it didn't even cross my mind that it might be an "alligator area".

After we were done, I mentioned it to the guys in the pro-shop. They said that usually when the alligator gets to the 5-foot range, they'll "remove" them. The one I saw seemed a whole lot bigger than that, so maybe he's operating on borrowed time.

“My wife has been talking about me again, hasn’t she.”

And, as usual engaging in hyperbole.....LOLOLOLOL

Beside she was not talking about Crocs but rather something about the Burmese Pythons that are overrunning the area! LOLOLOLOL

Crocks have a nastier disposition than gators....I never could remember which was worse so I had to come up with a saying that I could remember....Alligators are alright, Crocks are crazy..Both dangerous, but crocks are the worse of the 2
