Troubled Mel 'leaving the States' after selling his New York mansion at cut price

Mel Gibson is poised to quit the US after selling his mansion near New York.

The disgraced Lethal Weapon star, who faces allegations of violence from his Russian former girlfriend, sold the mock Tudor property, known as Old Mill Farm, for £16 million – £10 million less than the asking price.

Gibson has also put his Malibu home, Lavender Hill Farm, on the market for £10 million, according to a property newsletter.

He has told friends that he will move back to Australia - where he grew up after moving from America when he was 12 - with his ex-wife Robyn, who still supports him.

Gibson, 54, is ready to contest the allegations of Oksana Grigorieva, 40, who claims he punched her and hurt their baby, Lucia, in a drunken rage in January.

A source close to the family said: ‘Oksana’s allegations have united Mel and Robyn and this move is her idea.

I might suggest that this is “rock bottom.”

Before I hit it, I thought I could work out all of my problems by myself. I thought “I can handle all of this.” I was wrong.

I was not a drinker or drug addict, but my life was in ruins anyway.

I had a wonderful wife and family that put up with my crap before, and helped me find my way back.

Seven years later and I am the happiest and most centered person I have ever been.

God is wonderful and he sends the right people into your path. You just cannot see it sometimes.

I am praying and hoping that he finds his peace. He is gifted and needs to make himself right.

Mel needs to sit down and have a chat with Fr. Corapi.

It sounds like Mel's demons have taken him to a place of true darkness.

Others have been there and worked their way out of it, so can Mel.

I had heard that somepeople think the tapes were altered, do you have any more info on that or a link?

That is it. He needs to leave his present environment and make a true evaluation. He has the ability that many do not. I hope he understands.

I am so with you in your analysis... How many tapes did this woman take of him? I’ve heard that some experts feel that these tapes are doctored as well. She seems way too calm in her responses and much louder than him.

This whole thing was planned definitely for his money. How many times has this woman been married? Each time she shoots higher and she thought she had it with Mel.. I think she is a terrible person!

I wasn’t implying any lack of character by the fact Gibson lost his Australian accent. He probably wanted to sound more American which is understandable since he was born one.

Oh my: Mel Gibson tapes might have been doctored

"Yo-Yo" had a good comment on that thread: "I did notice that in the leaked recordings I’ve heard, you never hear Mel and Oksana speaking at the same time. Almost always during a telephone conversation, there are points where both parties speak at the same time."

I have not listened to the tapes although if what "Yo-Yo" says is true that would raise a lot of questions.

Yep. That man has beefy arms. Had he punched, twice, as she claims, it would be evident. This looks like she fell on her face or ate the wrong thing.

By the way, Gibson went to AU when he was 12, returning to the US as an adult.

Thanks for the link. If it’s true I’ll change my opinion on what I think happened. Can we at least agree that if the tapes are real, he’s a horrible person and if they’re faked, she’s a liar?

You have noticed that the so-called tapes have apparently been altered? Possibly even faked entirely?

That makes me think that if Mel was drunk when he called her, he may have no idea what he actually did say to her.

So, he may have only said some things and not other things. And, if he was drunk, he may not be able to distinguish between what he did and did not say. What if most of it is not his voice? Mel's voice is so garbled even he may not recognize his own voice, or that someone else may have injected another voice.

What a mess.

In agreement with everything you wrote, and with what Mr Levin says, as well. I can imagine that a man might well have a complete breakdown from the realization that he has lost his wife of many years, the respect of his children, the respect of millions of people, his career, and half a billion dollars, for a golddigging whore who set him up. In essence he has been (I don’t want to say “victim,” because he is quite guilty in this) used by a semi-pro con artist who exploited his own very weak character.

I dislike excusing alcoholics for the damage they do on grounds that “it’s an illness, they can’t help it.” But I pray that Mel finds help for his alcoholism and rage, and comes back to his faith.

I adopted what I call "television announcer" as my dialect, and stayed with it as long as I was working professionally.

I have a friend who travels alot for his job. He said that in Beijing at Tianamen (sp) Square, young Chinese students look for true Americans just to walk around with so they can practice their English. It seems that American "television announcer" dialect is able to land them good jobs after they graduate.

Thanks for the clarification on that.

In agreement. Alcoholics lie to everyone; to themselves especially. Yet, his -- what shall I call it -- fascination with the Christ appears sincere, if incompletely realized in his character. Given his ardor, I join you in truly hoping this is the "whack in the head with a two-by-four" he may have needed to get to the bottom of his rage and addictions -- and make a total surrender to the only One Who can save him.

Fascinating! Language facility and dialect really do "telegraph" a lot about a person in a first impression. From there on out, they have to have the solid resumé and more executable goods to deliver than glibness. But it's a foot in the door, as important as understated wardrobe, good grooming and personal hygiene.

Mr G is one of those studio gurus....and you have no idea what he can do with the toys he has. Just last week he manufactured a word for a jazz song he was mixing. The singer left the word out all together, and he has it being sung on the final product. Even he, as an old pro, was impressed.

There is software that will allow you to tune, edit, (time or words) or even replace one voice with another. I know one producer who sings a part, then replaces his voice with that of the “singer” (who isn’t too good). That way the song is in tune, in rhythm, and with “heart”. Its the only way they got the album done. (and no, I will not tell you who it is)

With the amount of material out there with Mel’s voice on it, this tape could be made up out of whole cloth if someone wanted to.

Post 72

Mr G could put those tapes together here, without ever having met the man or spoken to him. Just getting hold of his movies would be all he needs, to get his voice. Analyzing them won’t tell you much, unless the guy was really sloppy about it. If you don’t have the original files (nobody uses tapes any more... all done in computers)it is hard to tell where the editing has been done.
