I had a similar idea awhile back. instead of a jar, I thought of a plastic can. The can would be of high density polyethylene but the lid still metal. So you still open it with a can opener. Soda pop cans could be done the same way. The top of the can would remain traditional aluminum with a pop top. The rest HDPE.

“Beans, beans, they’re good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you...”

And its sister version:

Beans, beans, the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot.

Don't people own can openers? I can understand people cutting themselves opening the cans if they used the original can opener. Doesn't plastic leach chemicals into the foods? Isn't plastic made from oil?

I'm not too thrilled about these see through cans.

Plastic is a petroleum product.
It also releases an estrogen type compound into your food.

Plastic can be a good thing, but it can also be a curse. As with anything, moderation is the answer. Unfortunately, moderation is almost impossible these days. Everything is plastic.

We like to grow, raise (or hunt), and eat as much of our own food as possible. That other stuff just isn't that healthy anymore.

I do have to buy stuff we can't (or just don't) grow ourselves (like olives). When I do, I avoid Heinz just because I don't want to support Kerry. It's no skin off my back to buy a competitors product.

I am not a huge fan of plastic packaging, especially with food. I don’t like cooking with it or warming things in it. When my vinegar brand started using plastic bottles over glass ones I switched brands.

Oh, c'mon. I've never heard such a thing.

I'd stick around to debate it, but I've got to go do my nails.

Packaging is always a trade off. The lead alloy used by toothpaste makers long ago is an example. And yes it did leach lead into the tooth paste. But they kept using it for some time after the contamination was known. I bet you didn’t know that either.

Back then some cut the empty tubes up to use for fishing sinkers.

As for the estrogen contamination, Google is your friend.

I make homemade Boston baked beans. The results have ruined me for the tinned stuff :)

Heinz could give them away and I would say “No thanks.” The Heinz Foundation supports too many causes I despise. Thank God for freedom to choose!

I always wonder why we always wonder why we always geet cheated when we metricate, 5th/gal.vs750ml,12ozvs1/3 liter, 20ozvs500ml & etc. I boycott heinz because of Kerry. I also cook my own beans and preserve them in glass jars and avoid the plasticizers leaching into my beans,

Plastic is a petroleum product. It also releases an estrogen type compound into your food.

Open up a can of beans these days, and look at the can. The can has a white plastic lining so the metal doesn't leach into the product.

Either way, the beans are touching plastic.

I was raised on hot dogs and beans, and to this day, they’re one of my favorites. (B&M bacon and onion, with Nathan’s hot dogs).
