((MyFoxDetroit.com Staff)) - Do you know what this is? Joel from Bloomfield Township says this animal started showing up in his backyard yesterday.
He took a few photos and sent them to us to help identify the animal. Please scroll through them. We've sent them off to Veterinarian but until we hear back, what's your call?
Add your ideas in the comment box below. We'll post the answers from the experts once we get them. See if you're right.
UPDATE: Some quick research has our staff thinking it's a mangy fox or a coyote. Still, what do you think?
(Slide show at link)
I was going to say, an emaciated fox, after viewing the slide show...
It’s a young fox.
Crypto-Beast-Ping!
My Dog!
Thanks for locating him :0
LOL! Well, mystery solved. Get a collar on that thing!
Looks like it has sarcoptic mange (canine scabies).
El Chupacabras.
too bad it couldn't be caught and giving treatment - but in the meantime - leave it some food and water - It's very doubtful it can catch it's own food at the point - which is why he's coming to humans for help.
Animals do that.
I had a raccoon that came for help after having is tail ripped off probably by a car.
His back right hindquarters were also badly injured. I put ot food and water for him for over a month and he recovered enough to get along on his own.
A deer came for help - after having been shot in the foreleg - she had twin fawns with her. I put out deer pellets for over a month until I could see she was much better.
I have ‘house mouse’ that came crawling up on my son in bed one cold night - just a baby - stood up on his chest and just sat there shivering. We made him a ‘house’ in a glass fish aquarium - and he ‘lives’ next to my computer. He's 5 yrs old now - his favorite foods are dandelions, clover and salted pumpkin seeds.
I hope someone does the right thing for this poor animal. they only ask for help when in dire straights. He doesn't appear to be rabid - but maybe a debilitating and painful case of mange?
He’s been gone for day’s.Must have hitched a ride up Telegraph Rd. I will get a collar, however I don’t think it’s gonna help.
A young very sick fox.
I think it is some kind of bizarre fish.
No, that’s a yearling wallaby. Or maybe not. Could be a deformed wolverine.
Looks like a grungy and mangy fox or a very young and hungry coyote.
You live by McElligot’s Pool?
It’s an ordinary fox with severe mange.
I still think it is a fish.
Something humblegunner would catch and eat.
Pool?
Or pond...............pond would probably be better for me...
How stupid are people?
It is a fox with mange and little bit of pond scum.
I was badly spoofing Caddy Shack................
That is my vote too.

"Crypto-Beasts?
Naw. We ain't seen none of them 'round here!"
It’s a fox with severe demodectic mange and it’s probably suffering terribly.
Long term doses of Ivermectin would cure it but no one will likely treat it.
How sad for the poor, hurting thing.
They could easily leave out some canned dog food with Ivermectin in it.
They’d have to do it daily for months, though.
Wow, you are a real animal lover. If that showed up in my yard in TX, I would help it get to coyote heaven very quickly.
It’s a hybrid. Note the stripes on the legs.
Maybe a coytote and Tasmanian Wof.
That was a nice post and I agree with you. It sure has a long tail even for a fox don’t you think? No normal coyote has a tail that long.
Definitely a snipe, you can tell by the markings
Definitely a snipe, you can tell by the markings
This is what happens when taxpayers flee a dying region. Obviouly welfare could have spared the poor animal this terrible fate. We can only hope that Obama will have Congress sneak in a few table scraps from Michell`s recent party in Spain.
Maybe even share some of Bo`s food.
Fox with mange.
Its very clear the fox is ill. Whether mange or a genetic flaw that stopped fur growth, no way the poor thing makes it through a Michigan winter without a coat.
You are a very kind person. Most people would have tossed the mouse into the field—at best. Mice make very sweet pets. I didn’t know they live as long as five years, though.
It’s a fox with a bad case of mange. I’ve seen them before and up close like this one.
I think it may be because he refuses to eat any “mouse” food from the pet store - he doesn't like cheese - etc.
I feed him pretty much what he might find on his own - and his favorites are greens - especially dandelions, clover, spinach and bronze lettuce - and radish tops.
His favorite of all is salted pumpkin seeds...and he likes walnuts and cashews and raw peanuts in the shell.
And he doesn't like American cereals - but I brought back some from Canada, which he likes. (Canada's foods are much healthier)
He loves teasing the cat - who will still try to get through the glass - while he sits there and laughs.
He's the longest living mouse I've ever known - and with five kids and 15 grandkids - there's been more than a few...
We (well my wife, actually) have a bird.
The bird eats, among other things like filet mignon and strawberry sorbet, meal worms from the pet store.
Every time they get a new cashier, I go in to buy dog food and meal worms. I always ask the cashier “What do I do if my bird isn’t all that hungry? Do you have any snack worms, in case he doesn’t want a full meal?”
The dullards never get it.
hee hee
Whatever you do, don't ever feed him pet store food. We had a mouse who had been my son's pet for several years. Then for some reason we gave him some kind of seed cake from the pet store. Within a week he was dead. Our cat almost died of kidney failure after a diet of expensive food recommended by the vet. We returned to Purina and Fancy Feast and she lived another eight years, although her kidneys had been permanently damaged.
Aiiiiiie!
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Is that Camera from the 1960’s ?
