DEAR ABBY: A few weeks ago, I had to pick up my sister "Karyn" after a night out. When she called she told me I was going to "hate" her and not to judge her. The man she was with had been arrested for DUI. Abby, he is the same person who killed another one of my sisters in a drunk-driving accident years ago! Not only has Karyn been hanging out with him, it has been going on for months and she says it's serious.
I am appalled with my sister's choice. I told Karyn she could choose him or me. I guess she chose him because we haven't spoken since. I thought we were very close before, but now that I know what she has been doing, I no longer want anything to do with her.
Am I overreacting, or should she be more concerned with how her decisions affect the rest of the family? -- DISAPPOINTED IN NEW YORK
DEAR DISAPPOINTED: I don't think you're overreacting, and I don't blame you for being appalled. Your sister has involved herself with a serious alcoholic who, if he could control his addiction, would have dried out after he killed someone. At least for the time being, keep your distance. While there's no accounting for the affairs of the heart, I have a strong hunch Karyn is going to need all the support you and the family can give her as this romance follows its predictable path.
Abby’s not coming down for breakfast. I think her neice took over the franchise.
I can not understand the character flaw in some women which makes them adore, run after and fall in love with criminals.
Meanwhile decent men sit at home watching football.
Sounds like America’s love affair with the Mohammedan Death Cult, a cult that has killed many thousands of Americans around the world and intends to kill more, and finally subjugating us to their abject tyranny.
Some people are just moral morons. It’s as simple as that, and their numbers increase daily.
“When she called she told me I was going to “hate” her and not to judge her.”
Telling someone not to “judge” them is an admission that they are guilty in their own mind. The problem with society today is that their isnt enough judging. We need more judging, not less.
Drunk drivers are part of a Mohammaden Death Cult? Who knew?
It’s like the saying “it’s impossible to make things idiot proof as they keep making better and better idiots”
Yep. I’d take football over crazy ass women anyday.
Some women just love excitement and drama. That’s how bad boys get laid and Oprah makes millions. I dated a couple of “Crisis Queens” and they just were not happy unless there was disaster afoot.
Headline ‘kind of’ sensationalist.
I was kind of figuring he ‘murdered’ the sister in the manner of violence etc...gun/knife/strangulation/rape-murder
Apparently, if he is still loose etc, someone thought he was rehabilitated and very possibly if the guy fed the sister a good song and dance etc she thought he was part of the ‘healing process’.
It does appear to be kind of ‘kinky’ though-her taking up with him, but maybe she hid herself in a bottle as a way to overcome her grief and just got caught up with him.
Either way, this latest DUI should get him a room courtesy of the state.
The choices that many women make when it comes to choosing mates never cease to astound me.
I think she should call Delilah to request a song.
I think we need more of the use of good judgement. Judging means a condemnation of the person. Judgement discerns good, helpful actions from bad, harmful actions. Her sister doesn't have to tolerate her dating the man who killed her other sister. She can hate what she's doing without hating her (which may even be what her sister wants most out of the deal).
I’m guessing she’s a democrat, in fact, I know she is, nobody who has a shred of self respect would find themselves in a such a situation ...
It is kind of like building a Mosque on the ashes of the WTC.
The problem with society today is that their isnt enough judging. We need more judging, not less.
Ever since Abby endorsed abortions at any stage and the homosexual “life” style as ok, I don’t even glance at her columns.
