NEW YORK (AP) -- Toyota recalled 1.13 million Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks Thursday because their engines may stall, the latest in a string of quality problems at the Japanese automaker.

The recall covers vehicles from the 2005-2008 model years sold in North America. Three accidents and one minor injury have been reported, though Toyota said a link to the engine issue has not been confirmed.

The automaker said vehicles with 1ZZ-FE engines may contain a defective engine control module....

Shouldn’t they be “Matrices”?

Interesting how Toyota recalls are national news, but Government Motors recalls are yesterday's news.

from the article: HAH!

Separately, General Motors Co. is recalling 200,000 Pontiac Vibes in North America due to the same problem, GM spokesman Alan Adler said. The Vibe is similar to the Matrix and was built under a joint venture between Toyota and GM at a now-closed factory in Fremont, Calif.

If I was not unemployed right now I would go buy a Toyota.

Why are people still buying these things?? Toyota has recalled just about everything but their senior management!!

Oh, God love ya! I had a 1992(93?) Toyota Cressida.
BEST car ever. I still see them around on ebay once in
a great while. Tercels are not bad, but after a Cressida.... :)

I bought my dark blue beauty out of the proceeds
I recieved from my mom’s estate.

It ran like a top, too, but I let a jerk,
i.e. ‘ex-husband’, do the maintenance because somebody
(see i.e. above) was too cheap to pay a mechanic....

Anyway, it died too young. I donated it to the
local fire department to use as a practice vehicle
and they were to let me know when they were using it
so my friends and I could come and toast it.
(REALLY small town, REAL small).

The fireman who came to get it was also the
local garage owner amd mechanic.

A month later my precious Cressida was being driven
by woman who was bringing her child to the town
day-care I ran.

She was an illegal from south of the border,
who also happened to be a tenant of the
fireman/mechanic.

To this day I can’t get over it - but I am Italian :)

Well, thanks for listening.....
thanks for the suggestion!
I will have another Toyota one day,
or a rusty Ford Bronco - FULL size :)

Thanks for the post, just made an appointment to take my 2007 Vibe in next week. This could explain why the engine seems to power down for a split second in 4th gear. The rpm’s will fall very briefly from 2,000 to 1,000. It recovers quickly but I’ve never had a car do this before and it makes me very uneasy.

Oh, Joe.... I have got to stop drinking
AND smoking crack on Thursdays!
One or the other, at least before 5! :)

Got my cars and years mixed up....

My Cressida was a 1982. It’s replacement,
a Volvo 240 wagon, was the 1992 model.
(only had that for a year - loved it a bunch
but the payments were too much)

LOVE yer pics, someday I may too learn this thing
called “posting a photo”.....

Those cars do last forever.
My 1987 Toyota Supra was at 292,000 miles when i sold it and the engine still purred like the day i bought it.
