What's Up With Today's Colorful Google Logo?
San Franciso Chronicle ^ | September 7, 2010 | Nick Saint

Google's home page sports a colorful -- but mysterious -- new interactive logo this morning.

The logo, apparently visible only to browsers in the United States and Britain, shows the word 'Google' made up colorful circles that scatter around your screen when you mouse over them. It's neat, but what is it doing there?

Usually Google's custom logos are tied to holidays or historical events in a way that is fairly obvious, and, when users are confused, clicking on the logo triggers a search explaining it. This time, however, clicking on the logo does nothing.

There is already a lot of speculation out there, for instance that this has something to do with Google's birthday. But Google denies this, and none of the other explanations we've read seem convincing.

Dude, you are spending too much time at Google.

Did you know that when the circles get bigger they are sucking all of your personal information out of your computer while you are distracted?

“All your data belong to us, in one central location which we can send to anyone, anywhere.”

I thought it was strange they had the United States Flag on the home page yesterday (or day before, forget which).

If you click on it you allow Google to track everything you do with your computer as well as charge you per mouse click.

On a related note, I doubled the speed of firefox by deleting the google “safe browsing” crap that they infested it with. I just went into “about:config” and deleted all values starting with “http:” My reasoning is that I know what I want to connect to on the internet and it’s not goofle.

I like it... but they need to make it more ‘game’ like. Playing with it and always getting ‘Google’ isn’t that exciting...
