I had no dietary restrictions except clear liquids the day before, then the GoLightly-a whole gallon which I managed 3/4th over a longer time period than I should have-but it was go slower or upchuck all of it. Where I live it is suggested to use unsweetened lime flavored kool-aid to help with the taste. That gave the necessary results - but yeah- getting that done can be tough.

the 5 days prior to a colonoscopy

Never heard of that.

I've had 3 colonscopies and diet was a minor issue. The evening before the procedure, you start taking 'go lightly' which 'cleanses' the innerds.

They do caution against eating anything with 'red' dye or coloring the day before the procedure.

Hydration = no beer.

Post procedure hydration is important too.

But come 24hrs post you’ll really enjoy a beer.

They really told you to have a special diet for five days before? I have only just had to drink the purge juice the night before.

But what is really important is that you take it easy on solid food AFTER the procedure. Soup, crackers, small little meals, and lots to drink. You can really mess yourself up if you eat a lot when your system is empty.

Good luck, and don’t worry about it too much. It’s really no big deal (and could save your life.)

Actually, it’s now 10 years, if everything is ok.

What the hell are you talking about?....All you do is drink a half gallon of colon cleaner the night before and that’s it!

My Dad died of colon cancer (ok...enuff with the personal stuff).

But...since that "crap" (no pun intended) is in my genes, and I'm well beyond 55, I get one of these every three years. To date, I've had 5....and I'm clear - so far.

Simple simple simple procedure. The prep (2 days) is way way more trouble than the actual event.

Follow the nurse's orders....consume every bit of the "prep fluid" they give you...and stay away from anything red (the dyes used can "mask" things they may need to see clearly).

If there are no major polyps, you should be able to return to your normal diet within a day. Even if there are, you'll be back to normal in three.

Have a ball...it's really easy....and the peace of mind is priceless.

There is a reason I am doing a 5 day instruction diet.

The big one is I cannot waste all involved time/planning to have the Doc announce a re-do.

And this is normal for this speacialist to prescribe as a pre diet prep.

I normally fast as part of my lifestyle but not going to say it is fun.

So the two day prior clear liqued plan is something I do in life time to time.

It is the 5 day prior that I am trying to put together a meal plan for since I am a veg/seed/cheese diet normally person.

They have a new solution you can now take, without all of the gallon of stuff.Don’t sweat it you won’t know a thing about it. My first one the Doctor let stay awake and watch the entire procedure then he gave me a C-D with the procedure to take home, for some reason most people don’t want to watch, but it was interesting.

unsweetened lime flavored kool-aid

The last jug I had actually had 'flavor packets' attached. I got to choose the flavor. And it was about a half-gallon size. Previous ones were the full gallon and no flavoring.

There must be some reason your doc tells you to be on a special diet for 5 day prior. I just had my 3rd colonoscopy and it was the same all 3 times. Clear liquid diet for one day, 2 pills at noon and drink that nasty halflytle starting at 6pm. Countless trips to the little house behind the house. Colonoscopy the next morning.

Doc said I am a perfect a...hole........ OH no, he said I HAVE a perfect a,,, hole. :0) snort*

Great recipe for post procedure.

However Cauliflower is in the cabbage family and that is a no no in the pre diet.

LOL! I am about the same. If I don’t eat regularly I get a massive headache. As I feel the headache coming on even if I don’t actually feel hungry, I get crazy to get some food.

Get yourself some Desitin or similar such ointment. You’ll soon understand why. The procedure is nothing, the prep is murder.
