[Vanity] - Why is Illegal Immigration Wrong?
09/17/2010 | Personal

Posted on 09/17/2010 11:40:59 PM PDT by hylandia

I live in San Francisco, and I think you all know what that implies. I am a dyed-in-the-wool liberal and nearly everyone I interact with daily is as well. I read Free Republic most days to try to understand why Obamacare is so hated, and why the Ground Zero Mosque is taking such flak. And to be honest, I understand most of the viewpoints here. I don't agree, but I understand. The only one I don't understand is the very, very strong opposition to illegal immigration. Is it strictly a legal opposition? Workers that flaunt our laws at the border are likely to flaunt others? Or are there other reasons? I promise not to post again... so the zotting is a foregone response. I am just very interested in exactly why you feel that illegal immigration is so wrong.

At one time, didn’t a credit card company issue credit cards to illegals?

“5-5-10

UK Telegraph

Thousands of cancer sufferers are set to be denied a ‘miracle’ drug on the NHS that is routinely used in virtually every other Western country.
The Government’s rationing body says Avastin is not cost-effective despite evidence that it can prolong the lives of bowel cancer patients by more than two years.
The final decision is due next month, but NICE, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, has already made clear the cost breaches its threshold for NHS use.”

“A WOMAN has been denied an operation on the NHS after paying for a private consultation to deal with her severe back pain.
Jenny Whitehead, a breast cancer survivor, paid £250 for an appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon after being told she would have to wait five months to see him on the NHS. He told her he would add her to his NHS waiting list for surgery.
She was barred from the list, however, and sent back to her GP. She must now find at least £10,000 for private surgery, or wait until the autumn for the NHS operation to remove a cyst on her spine.
“When I paid £250 to see the specialist privately I had no idea I would be sacrificing my right to surgery on the NHS. I feel victimised,” she said.”

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1247568/500-000-hospital-patients-sent-home-soon.html
More than 500,000 patients every year are readmitted to hospital after apparently being sent home too soon, alarming figures reveal.
Labour’s waiting-time targets have been blamed for the 50 per cent rise in emergency readmissions of patients within days of them being discharged.
Critics said it was a scandal that almost 1,500 a day were apparently being released before they are well enough, harming their recovery.”

These are just three of scads of articles I have saved pinpointing the torturous horror of socialized medicine in the UK.

It is well known you can get an MRI for a pet within a day or two in the UK or Canada. People, however, must wait for months. Why? Animal medicine is not socialized.

The word you were groping for is "flout". "Flaunt" means to uphold enthusiastically.

Yes, that’s it. Rush had a parody on it.

Like I tell my old lady, if you have something to say, open your mouth and say it - don't stand there with your jawbone banging around like a hooked fish. LOL

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

I forgot to add a very pertinent opposition point to illegal immigration - that is, that we need to control our borders for security purposes.

At least those who enter legally (whether as tourists, students, or new citizens) get screened and identified. They may go on to be terrorists; but it is less likely than if they just came here illegally with no one being aware that they are here.

Also, hylandia, I don’t know why you think you should be zotted. This isn’t dailykos or DU, and we can handle dissent as long as people aren’t perjorative or starting rumors, etc.

Gee, I don’t know. Do you like uninvited people walking into your home all hours of the day and night stealing your money, eating your food, and telling you how you need to accommodate them and make them permanent members of your household?

Yours was the best response.

The next time you stop in at the welfare office (it’s probably right next to Democrat headquarters, for voter registration convenience) you may want to ask yourself why those idiot freepers bother working and paying taxes, rather than why they are disgusted by “open borders” people like you.

Thanks for asking. Now take a hike.

If you're going to sign up just to pull someone’s chain or have a bit of fun with the rubes, forget it! It won't fly.

Liberals don't call illegal immigration “illegal immigration” and they don't ask “what's wrong” with it but rather why anyone can't see how right it is.

bye bye.

The answer is explained best by Nobel Prize-winning libertarian economist Milton Friedman..... he stated that no country can possibly survive having BOTH unlimited immigration AND a generous welfare state.

Well, you haven't been zotted yet, and I don't think you should be. You haven't been belligerent or insulting. I'm hoping you'll stick around to answer some questions.

You say you understand our viewpoints but do not agree. Let's go down the list you mentioned:

Why do you support Obamacare? Does the Federal government have any Constitutional authority to even get involved in the health care business, let alone force people to pay for a service they don't want? Yes, charity is good, as is helping the poor. However, that is the job of churches and individuals who choose to do the job....not the job of the Federal government with money taken from citizens by force of law.

Why do you support the ground zero mosque? The history of Islam is full of incidents of violent take-over followed by the victorious placement of mosques where culturally significant landmarks previously existed. We all know that not all muslims are terrorists. If they truly wanted to show that they were a religion of peace, and simply wanted to coexist...they would understand why placing a mosque at ground zero would be offensive, and they would build somewhere else.

The word "illegal" is right there in the title, why do you think we see it as wrong? It is illegal for a reason. We are not against immigration, but we need to control it and regulate it due to our limited resources and to make sure that everyone that is benefiting from our society is contributing to our society.

Were any of your liberal beliefs arrived at by way of though and logic, or was it by feelings and media repetition?

In 1990 a good wage in this town for a high quality carpenter was $15 an hour. There were 0 illegal aliens here in construction. In 2000 the same carpenter would be lucky to get hired for $10 and a lot of illegals held construction jobs.

This of course happened about ten years later here, because this is a small mountain town, than it did in the rest of the state.

How does that work for you, pal?

It is Friday after all.
