The increase of vulgarity and profanity on this board is troublesome to me. It was not always so. I can remember the olden days. There was no profanity. None. And there was no chat. None. The first Freepers held one another to a high standard of discourse.
I wonder why and how the profanity has become so common? The rule in the reply box includes no profanity. Do we have a problem of definition as to what constitutes profanity? Does replacing one of the letters in the F word with %## or ! mean that we have not used profanity in our posting?
Im not really sure where to go with this. Certainly the site owner and his empowered moderators are the arbiter of what is to be allowed. I guess the best I would hope for is to encourage us all to think just a bit more about trying for forceful language without gutter language.
That is all.
Or perhaps YOU could buy some bandwidth, start your very own site, and run it any way you like.
THAT is how conservatives do things in a capitalist society.
Just ask Mr. Robinson.
No you don't otherwise you wouldn't have spend your post talking about censorship and how to punish people who didn't do what you wanted.
ooohhh. Touched a nerve, did I?
Not at all. I am just pointing out that we, as conservatives don't usually get into the business of trying to tell others how to run THEIRS.
The success of our society has been due, in large part, to folks who believe they have a better idea... and then make the investment to implement it.
Suggesting that JimRob invest more of HIS money, and make the site more cumbersome for EVERYONE, to please YOU sounds kind of liberal to me.
This was an unmoderated board for years... Why do think we got the mods?
Oh puh-leeze!!! That "you're a liberal" is almost as juvenile as the "I'd hit it" including the pictures of scantily clad women.
I’m sorry.
It’s just that these $#$&*@#$*&*@#$&& liberal #@@#@*&&#@@ and media @*$#(( make me sooooo mad!
My point is that I know guys that could swear like a sailor but were honest as day was long, generous, would give you the shirt off your back, pillars in the community and treated kids like me with loving kindness and inspired you with vision to go on and excel in life.
I know little holier-than-thou, blue-haired harpies that never swore a day in their life, but were some of the most cutting, conniving, duplicitious, manipulative evil wenches I have ever met in my life.
God doesn’t like swearing, but he doesn’t like a cutting tongue or conniving manipulation either. Life is often more complicated than it seems.
Racism is ugly and completely unacceptable here, imho. I have hit the abuse button a number of times as a result of what I believe is racism.
One of the problems is that it is so common today. A friend was actually poking gentle fun at me last week end because she has never heard me use bad language. I laughed but I realized what a sad comment it was on our society.
It sounds good to me. Sometimes, imho, it is as or more effective to self-correct. Politely, of course. Some of this may just be a matter of education in manners or even vocabulary, perhaps.
I didn't call you a liberal. I said that your suggestion concerning the operation of a business owned by someone else "sounds kind of liberal TO ME".
Obviously, you like to squeal "I'm a victim" at every post you don't like, and you keep evading the issue of your nanny tendencies concerning the operation of JimRob's site.
I simply suggested that if you have a plan that you believe would work better than what we have here, do it.
Seems to me that I am the one who touched a nerve.
I never heard my mother us profanity. My father had one profane thing that he said when he was truly upset. It was a profanity rather than a vulgarity. Nothing else, but it was a doozy, a real triple threat.
(This will be my last ping to Jim on this thread. He's gotten a couple from me and should be aware that he will be mentioned as the thread continues.)
Thanks for pinging Jim. It was the right thing to do at this point.
My "plan" is asking for self restraint. Several on the thread have acknowledged the need for it. You, sir will do as you please. Fare thee well.
You, sir will do as you please.
That, I shall.
Fare thee well.
Back at ya.
Pinging me to Jim? Seriously bad form dude. Wow.
It’s Jim’s forum, let’s just let him run it as he pleases.
Your post provides an example to which we can all aspire.
Imho, that was not the intent of the ping at all.
