Obama: No shame over shovel-ready sham
The Boston Herald (online) ^ | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | Jonah Goldberg

Back in early 2009, President-elect Barack Obama was asked on “Meet the Press” how quickly he could create jobs. Oh, very fast, he said. He’d already consulted with a gaggle of governors, and “all of them have projects that are shovel-ready.” When Obama revealed the members of his energy team, he explained that they were part of his effort to get started on “shovel-ready projects all across the country.” When he unveiled his education secretary, he assured everyone that he was going to get started “helping states and local governments with shovel-ready projects.”

In interviews, job summits and press conferences, it was shovel-ready this, shovel-ready that. Search the White House Web site for the term “shovel-ready” and you’ll drown in press releases about all the shovels ready to shove shovel-ready projects into the 21st century, where no shovel is left behind.

“We won’t be fooled again”

At least Obama will be leaving some legacy, everything he was is what America will never vote for again.

We may just needed to be pushed to a precipice in order that we can truly appreciate right from wrong, and Obama was very, very wrong for America.

nobama and his ilk have no reason for “shame”. Shame implies that the situation was a mistake and there are regrets. nobama and his minions PLANNED to do what they are doing. They are anti-America, anti-Freedom and anti-humanity. Pox on them all. VOTE!

“he lied in everything he tried to sell...everything! stimilus is needed so that unemployment wont go above 8%. Obamacare will cut cost and deficit”

Whose cost and deficit??? Certainly not mine!!!

Just checked my pay stub: health insurance is now costing me $300 more a month! That’s $3,600 more a year!!! Like I can afford that now with 2 kids in college?!?!?

Most liberals lead such an isolated, insulated life (like Obama) that they really believe because they have millions of dollars to spend, everyone else does, too!

Obama is a fool. He is a Marxist tool. He is an idiot of the nth degree. What a jerk-off!!!

That is as accurate and succinct an analysis of the situation as ever I’ve read. It could have been written by Dinesh D’Souza or Charles Krauthammer. Well written.

NO shame is apparently a personality trait of narcissists.

Hussein doesn’t care that he LIED to America. He is an epic failure, and yet doesn’t care. Hussein’s desire was best expressed by his good friend John Dingell—he just wants “to control the people”.

You are exactly right. He knows that his lies will eventually be exposed but he is counting on the power he has ammassed to get away with them. We had better PRAY that he has overestimated his power and underestimated the will of the American people to remain free.

With regard to "shovel-ready", I believe that refers to taxpayer money that is literally being shoveled into the furnace of the U.S. government, never to be seen again.

Anyway, Obama is about to start doing the only thing he has experience at, and that is campaigning. Only this time, it's not campaigning for the next higher job but for the job he already has and has done quite poorly for the past few years.

All these starry-eyed losers who kept electing Obama to higher and higher positions in the government, taking no note whatsoever of the lack of performance in the job Obama currently held. They were just bound and determined to make this very effeminate and unqualified man the next U.S. president because, well, it was just so cool to have a reputed black guy in the Oval Office along with his scowling, pretend-wife. However, in their enthusiasm to elect the first black president, they forgot to find one that was actually qualified for the job (and sadly, they are out there, but were ignored in favor of this empty suit).

Maybe somebody like Clarence Thomas can be our first REAL black president.

OK, so Obama still doesn’t get it. But then I’m still trying to figure out what he meant.

No such thing as shovel-ready jobs: public works projects tend to go to people who already have jobs...including (gasp!) white men, as Robert Reich observed.

They tend to consume more in taxes than they produce in benefit, regarding the Goldberg’s LA County example of $111 million to “save” 55 jobs. I would agree that graft would almost have to be involved there. Also publicity is expensive, in regards to the sign example. But if this is what he meant, I would say that he is coming close to getting it.

Possibly he meant that it takes some time for projects to get approved and all, but if that’s what he meant, he would have spun it differently. He seems to be admitting that unemployment will not be decreasing any time soon.

I’ve said all along that people confused his ability to speak well,to deliver his lines, from a teleprompter, with intelligence. He really is not the sharpest tool in the shed. His selection of the mentally deficient Biden as veep was another clue. Why go so far down the IQ scale if he wasn’t afraid of being shown up?

My town had a major improvement project that had been in the planning stage for many years. Two years ago it was "shovel-ready" but still seemed like a dream because there was a gap between the available funding and the expected cost. Now it has been completed, thanks to federal stimulus money.

So in at least one case, the funding of shovel-ready projects was not a sham. I doubt that I live in the only town in America that benefited in this way.

I hope it collapses.

The only shovel-ready project is 0b0z0, his communist Chicago thugs and the RAT party.

I think that the American people will object to funding it.

Correction:

Should be:

I think that the American people will NOT object to funding it.

Do you hope that all the structures associated with the interstate highway system will collapse because they were built with “stolen money”?

>>>>It’s not that Obama was lying when he said all that stuff. It’s just that he didn’t know what he was talking about.

>>Just what Reagan said -- liberals don't lie. They just know so much that isn't so.

This is generally the theme of Thomas Sowell's book, The Vision of the Anointed. Published in 1996, it really points up how impervious the Liberal mind is to rational thought and learning via empirical results. I've just started it and the clarity of insight is astounding.

Read "Patterns of Failure" here and see if you don't see this Stimulus episode as yet another case of the general schema that Sowell has laid out.
