H/t to Reeses for this fascinating information
"Advanced solid-fuel rockets control their speed by making a corkscrew maneuver, clearly evident (at the base of the rockets flight). This is done during tests to keep the rocket from overshooting the test area. "

Who cares? Nobody got hurt, and it wasn’t launched by the mus, er, the Amish. Whatever it was, NORAD knew it was there.

Besides, even if you know what it was, what are you going to do, shoot it down with your AR 15?

I saw that Russian sources say that it was the Chi-Coms. IT was related to the Cruise Ship that the Chi-Coms knocked out with a new EMP weapon. A shot across Obambis bow.

Of course the Russians are going to say that. They're just trying to get people looking in the wrong direction. They know it was a joint effort by Castro, the CIA, and LBJ.

Sometime next month, I expect, some pop culture question will arise asking Americans what annoying and played out words or catch phrases should be made extinct at the start of the new year.

I submit the word ‘Clearly’ for this list. There’s very few times that this criminally overused adverb can honestly be used anymore, and the opportunities seem to keep diminishing daily.

The word ‘Clearly’ has become truly nothing more than a wildly swung bludgeoning tool in a fallacious argument, hoping desperately to hit the piñata.

I think it was US Navy, launched from some place near NAS Point Mugu.

I’m not excited by the payload - its probably something normal; a blank shot, something like that. It just frosts me when people deny the evidence of their own eyes: it’s a rocket!

The video shows a payload rising on a solid-fuel booster rocket. Distance to rocket, maybe 30 to 40 miles seen from a chase angle. You can even see a flame (not on this video, but on the full clip of which this is an extract)

It’s very obviously a rocket.

I agree.

Thanks.

Sorry if letting a former Under Secretary of Defense speak his mind outrages you;

As if bloggers should shout someone down who brings in an informed outside expert’s opinion.

Don’t you think this man’s interview should be seen by Free Republic members? Why not?

He is laughing as he gives the opinion that many others here on FR have also said is so obvious: ICBM launch, lights up the sky over LA for 2 minutes, missile smoke plume, corkscrew pattern, disappears heading for North Pacific or points beyond.

I have yet to see a single post (out of 330, popular topic) refute the expert Doug Richardson, the editor of Jane’s Missiles and Rockets,

given to the Times of London

because they can’t.

You can insult me and try to shout me down but two experts have said what I have said:

“ICBM missile launch from a submarine.” Clearly.

I’m going with the two experts in this case rather than the hysterical and rude bloggers.

Try reading the comments from your fellow FReepers, many of whom bring experience and expertise to the discussion instead of insults.

I will quote two from military men:

“I have seen many missile launches and that video sure looked exactly like some SLBM launches.”

and another:

“That is a missile launched from a submerged submarine. I have seen several launches and this photo is exactly like the launches I saw.”

Hmmmm .... ICBM launch off our coast and two polite posts are “forum abuse”.

I don’t agree.

I think the US government did not expect this, is shocked and stunned, doesn’t know what to say and doesn’t know what to do;

and is very ineptly “covering it up” although they were caught so flat footed that they haven’t really done even much of a job of that !

So, do you believe TWA 800 was destroyed by a center fuel tank explosion?

Every time I see the word "clearly" in that context in this story it reminds me of this guy:

A guy walks into a psychiatrist's office, completely naked except for the fact that he is wrapped from head to toe in plastic wrap. The psychiatrist takes one look at him and says, "I can clearly see youre nuts!"

That’s part of what the “missle people” miss. The guy doing the video filmed for a while, until he realised it wasn’t moving or coming back down or anything, and he gave up.

Nobody has any pictures of the rocket coming down. Of course, nobody has any reportings of the sound of a rocket going up either, and there’s no radar or satellite indications, no pilots reported it, no countries reacted to it by changing their defensive posture.

But we know it’s a missle, because some people watching 5 seconds of video are absolutely sure it has to be a rocket, and the government refuses to acknowledge it, so it must be true.

It’s not a missle.

But I bet if you keep posting this again and again, and keep repeating it long enough, your wishes will turn it into a missle.

So don’t back down now.

I think the missile truthers are confusing the camera zooming in with it showing actual motion.

Nobody has any pictures of the rocket coming down.

I've seen missile launches from Vandenburg, a couple from close up and one from really long distance.

A couple were headed for the south pacific back when they were testing the "shoot a bullet with a bullet" anti-missile plan. The one I saw from long distance looked like it was headed into orbit.

I was just curious about this one. The ones I saw, I'm not aware that they were publicized, but everyone knew what they were doing at least in general terms.

Take it from me, a very long time registered forum participant on FR: Many opinions here from self-proclaimed 'military men' don't amount to jack squat.

They don't hold any more weight than any other Freeper who just stumbled through the door and started posting their opinions.

Honestly, using some other FReeper's opinion as evidence of something really isn't evidence at all. In fact, it probably works against you.

Somewhere a steely-eyed missile man has one less missile. Would very much like to hear the deliberations going on over this in the government.

Have you found a video that shows the whole 10 minutes? The guy said he kept on the object for around 10 minutes, all the footage that I have seen has been much, much shorter.

Can you film a missile for ten minutes? I’m no expert, just wondering. A quik wiki search says that a trident missile is going 13,600 mph within 2 minutes of launch. But who knows. He was in a helicopter and had a zoom lens. How long can you film a missile in a situation like that? Is it possible to do so for ten minutes, assuming it was launched fairly near? Does the smoke trail look like what was filmed? I have no clue.

From the excellent link provided:

“Within seconds the object had zoomed out of view.”

“We have never seen anything like this before (after 20 years at LAX)”

Get it folks.

“20 seconds.

Zoomed out of view (of the LAX webcam)

Never seen anything like it before.”

From the LAX Webcam link:

Within Seconds The Object Had Zoomed Out of Our View. We Had Never Seen Anything Like This Before

Mystery Solved? - the video which explains this was an “optical illusion”

***You be the judge, but the speed of this is unlike any other so-called “optical illusion” of an aircraft approaching LAX we have ever seen in 20 years at LAX.

More, none of these new explanations have offered up the radar track of the aircraft they contend was the object we observed.

To properly judge for yourself, please click some of the video links we have displayed above — then note the object speed.

The Cargo Letter has no idea what thiis event represents, only that we don;t like the current explanations.
