Seeing where our nation is headed, I think about Germany, and everyday Germans as Nazism overwhelmed their nation. People just like us. Now I look at those film clips, and get sick to my stomach....a whole nation of young men turned into monsters.
My husband’s first tour with the Army was 1964, and twice after that. Last tour was in the mid-80’s. Watching Germany recover materially , and distance themselves from the war, they have never recovered the damage to their souls. Just overwhelming to think that could happen to us.
I kept joking about the “Obama Youth” singing “Tomorrow belongs to me”

I can understand your using the lesson of Germany in the ‘30s to a point. However this is America in 2010, not Germany in 1933. To be fair to history, there is NO comparision between the two. We are still a nation of free people despite what others might think and few of any of us could ever know what it was like in Germany at that time. We’re still a nation of free men and women and we’re armed. Something the German people weren’t. I’m sick of listening to the belly-aching from people who think we have to put up with this crap. Vote the bastards out in 2012 and if need be then we should follow the example of the Founders.

It’s staggering to see just how pervasive corruption is in this country, and how most of it is beyond our control.
It just gives me a little better understanding and insight of the events I have read about. That’s all.
I understand your point and I feel as you do- sometimes. But we aren’t anywhere near a situation as Germany was in the ‘30s and thank God, we will never know what that was like. We’re still free people and I’m getting mighty pissed off at the whinning from our side. Let’s get tough on our critics. We’re ‘’enemies’’? We’re only enemies to facists like Obama so lets start making their life miserable every way we can. Through the internet, the media, letters to the editor, etc. Fight these bastards with their own ‘’Rules’’.

Oh cut the dramatics! If this weren’t a free country do you think this web-site would even exist and you’d be asking me this question? I work with people who fled communist/fascist hell-holes. You want to find out what having no freedom is REALLY like? Talk to someone who fled some ‘’workers paradise’’ somewhere and get a big dose of gratitude.

Fighting government growth here is a losing battle. There is no constituency here for limited government. Even though our health care system is crumbling (waiting lists, shortages of equipment and doctors; I’ve actually been on a waiting list to see a foot specialist three years and it’ll still be another year before I have surgery) the vast majority of people support government run health care. After decades of public education the vast majority of people believe the government should redistribute wealth. Do you know the Prime Minister here appoints Senators for life (some are 100 years old, don’t live in this country anymore and STILL collect pensions)? Do you know the RCMP can search a home without a warrant? I wasn’t trying to be alarmist. I was just trying to tell you “freedoms” can slip away in an awful hurry.

We have a new party here called the Alliance party. It’s an amalgamation of the national Progressive Conservative party and the Reform party (which was a movement founded out west where your daughter lives). It’s what passes for a limited government party here, but it’s basically a socialist lite movement.
