If Nancy Clutter had survived, she would be 67 years old. But on Nov. 15, 1959, she was murdered in her family's farmhouse near Holcomb, Kansas, along with her mother, father and 15-year-old brother.
Six more years would pass before author Truman Capote would publish "In Cold Blood," his landmark book about the murders. Nancy Clutter was 16 years old when she died, and I was 16 years old when I read about the last days, hours and moments of her life.

From some things I’ve read, Capote was supposed to be in love with Smith and may have even had a relationship with him.
I read “In Cold Blood” while in the 9th grade and the homosexual overtones were obvious.
Not sure why all of a sudden that aspect of Capote is a surprise to anyone.
The fact that Capote was a homosexual was well known when the book came out and if not then it was when the movie was made...
I read something about him being a homosexual at the time I first saw the movie...
So its not modern news...

I had to read “In Cold Blood” in 8th or 9th grade. For us, it was simply a horrifying story about two very evil men. Any homosexual overtones were unknown to our innocent ears and certainly not discussed by the teacher. Additionally, I assure you Capote’s sexual orientation was never discussed, nor was it even known by the students. Admittedly, times have changed in 35 years, and the English teachers of today would probably explain to the students that the massacre was due to society’s lack of “tolerance and understanding” for their sexual orientation.
All you ever needed was to hear Capote speak to know how gay he was.
Well I knew Capote was a homosexual, but didn’t know from reading the book he had an “alleged” intimate relationship with Perry Smith.
