DETROIT (AP) A 67-year-old man police believe was homeless died after being punched and knocked to the ground during a scuffle with a 20-year-old Burger King employee in Detroit, and authorities ruled the death a homicide Friday.
An autopsy determined Paul Cannon died from blunt force trauma to the head, said Dennis Niemiec, a spokesman for the Wayne County medical examiner's office. An earlier report suggested the punch may have caused Cannon to choke on his dentures, but Niemiec said the dentures played no role in the death.
The county prosecutor's office received a warrant request, and it was under review, according to spokesman Mark Bernardi, who didn't expect a charging decision to be made Friday. The employee was being held.

My 67 year old dad could kick the ass of this whippersnapper in a New York minute. We don’t know the whole story.
What astounds me the most about this story is that the 20 year old did not have enough sense to call the police, or at least call the manager over to deal with the unruly man. After all that is what the manager is there for, to deal with unruly people, and if it is beyond him/her call the police.
To punch a customer however reflects poorly on the business and should be avoided. The best thing to do is for the employee to just turn around and walk away from the scene and get the store manager. Fighting in self defense should be the last result.
You ever been in a fistfight for your life? The vast, vast majority of 50+ men would be severely beaten by the vast, vast majority of 20 year old men.
And I post this as a white man raised in a really bad Chicago neighborhood, where if you went down, you had a good chance of being kicked into intensive care or worse, who at thirty-something knows my best brawling days are well behind me.
Are we talking about a normal 67 year old man or are we talking about a 67 year old demented person who freaked out?
When I worked in the EMS, we got called for a 95 year old woman who was 5,2 and maybe 100lbs who wigged out in an nursing home. It took three young cops and two young EMTs to get her on the stretcher. She almost punted my head accross the room{ she was unharmed, but the Paramedic was kicked in the groin. It was a little funny because the Paramedic was, and still is, a Asshat}.
We called it “retard stength” A most UN-PC term to describe crazy strength.
He was a DETROIT homeless..bum. Civil? The bum was a total rejection of civility. People want to be homeless, fine, but don’t tell me they are ‘social’, or ‘civil’. Work, family, building support to and fro with the people you meet, is civil. The bum is classic, pure uncivil. The man went into a lousy Burger King, in a louse city, and created a disturbance because that is who he was. He took his chances, pushed himself around and lost.
It’s Detroit, not Salt Lake. I doubt anyone looked up from their meal.
It’s odd that so many ‘crazy’ people are only crazy when it suits their benefit. They never walk out into heavy traffic thinking they are invisible. I call it situational craziness.
I have to remember that term.
I was listening to callers talk about this on WCHB-AM 1200 Detroit (Africanhyphenamerican talk radio) in the wake of this guys demise. A lot of Detroit callers very upset that people in the vicinity of the man continued to eat their meals or do their jobs if they happened to be employees. It didn’t surprise me that the guy who swung back, if that’s the case, was charged.
What a load of ****
He assaulted the employee first.
let a 67 year old pull a gun on you and say that.
Have to agree with that. Most 50+ year old guys aren’t going to be able to take on a healthy 20 year old. That’s why as I’ve grown older I’ve become better armed. I may not be able to beat the hell out of some clown anymore, but I’ll damn sure do worse.
There’s something else missing from this. There’s no mention of comparative size. I’m 64 but 6’5” and 290 pounds. Very, very few 20 year olds give me any grief.
Oh please....
A few years ago two Minneapolis policemen were called to the home of 70 year old ex-Viking Carl Eller to investigate a civil disturbance. They tried to take the 6-6 270 pound Eller into custody. He picked up both cops with either hand and held them at arms length for a period of time before putting them down and allowing himself to be taken in.
“An earlier report suggested the punch may have caused Cannon to choke on his dentures, but Niemiec said the dentures played no role in the death”
Huh? Say what?
LOL! that’s a classic and a keeper.
Whoa! Carl Eller? I believe it!
