RALEIGH, N.C. If there had been time, Marie Exley would have liked to start a family. Instead, the 32-year-old Army veteran has less than six months left, which she'll spend spreading a stark warning: Judgment Day is almost here.
Exley is part of a movement of Christians loosely organized by radio broadcasts, websites, independent of churches and convinced by their reading of the Bible that the end of the world will begin on May 21, 2011.
To get the word out, they're using billboards and bus stop benches, traveling caravans of RVs and volunteers passing out pamphlets on street corners. Cities from Bridgeport, Conn., to Little Rock, Ark., now have billboards with the ominous message, and mission groups are traveling in countries from Latin America to Africa to spread the news outside the U.S.
"A lot of people might think, 'The end's coming, let's go party,'" said Exley, a veteran of two deployments in Iraq. "But we're commanded by God to warn people. I wish I could just be like everybody else, but it's so much better to know that when the end comes, you'll be safe."
In August, Exley left her home in Colorado Springs, Colo., to work with Oakland, Calif.-based Family Radio Worldwide, the independent Christian ministry whose leader, Harold Camping, has calculated the May 21 date based on his reading of the Bible.
She is organizing traveling columns of RVs carrying the message from city to city, a logistics challenge that her military experience has helped solve. The vehicles are scheduled to be in five North Carolina cities between now and the second week of January, but Exley will shortly be gone: overseas, where she hopes to eventually make it back to Iraq.
"I don't really have plans to come back," she said. "Time is short."

I guess it’s time to get my will in order.
Camping gets around that by claiming that that only applied during “the church age” and that we are no longer in the church age. He really does have an answer for everything. But then he should since he’s been doing this for 30 years.
I have a doctor appointment that day...do you think I should reschedule?
Going over his previous calculations, Camping found that he forgot to carry the one.
That’s nothing, Hal Lindsey wrote a whole series of books teLling why our Lord was going to return in 1988.
RE: MT 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Harold Camping isn’t unaware of this warning, it has also been quoted to him by concerned Christians till they are blue on the face.
Mr. Camping however has an elaborate way of explaining why this verse does not apply to his prediction.
One explanation I heard is that although he can’t predict the time or hour. HE says to look for the signs and know the time is near. He is 89 years old. If he lives past 5/21/2011, he will probably go mad.
I predicted the end would start yesterday. Someone prove me wrong..
The end starts tomorrow. You’re wrong.
Howzat?
I’m landing in Vegas on the 21st. If it’s all gonna end I’ll be right where I want to be, making my final roll at the Nugget!
RE: making my final roll at the Nugget!
You can’t take it with you, and even if you can, nuggets are worthless where people are headed.
Is there a comet coming I don’t know about? And where are my black tennis shoes?
That reminds me of the joke about the guy who figures out how to "take it with him," so he smuggles some gold up to Heaven. When he arrives at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter asks him, "What are you doing with that pavement?"
Whew! Just made my 60th birthday. That was a close one.
And if this one doesn't do it, January of 2028?
Several months ago after hearing about this guy I tried to plod through some of his stuff. Quite convoluted and hardly persuasive.
I predict that on May 21, 2011 Emily Latella will break through the clouds in an explosion of glorious splendor accompanied by trumpet playing angels and say
“never mind.”
“...he will probably go mad.”
Future tense?
Well we all know for certain it won’t end THAT day.
Then September, 2044... then May, 2061... etc., etc.
