Do Cholesterol Drugs Do Any Good?
Bloomberg Business Week ^ | 01/17/2008 | John Carey

Yes, Wright saw, the drugs can be life-saving in patients who already have suffered heart attacks, somewhat reducing the chances of a recurrence that could lead to an early death. But Wright had a surprise when he looked at the data for the majority of patients, like Winn, who don't have heart disease. He found no benefit in people over the age of 65, no matter how much their cholesterol declines, and no benefit in women of any age. He did see a small reduction in the number of heart attacks for middle-aged men taking statins in clinical trials. But even for these men, there was no overall reduction in total deaths or illnesses requiring hospitalization—despite big reductions in "bad" cholesterol. "Most people are taking something with no chance of benefit and a risk of harm," says Wright. Based on the evidence, and the fact that Winn didn't actually have angina, Wright changed his mind about treating him with statins—and Winn, too, was persuaded. "Because there's no apparent benefit," he says, "I don't take them anymore."

LOL... so regular pharmaceuticals are useless, but untested and unproven snake oil is better. LOL.

“No side effects” is another way of saying “no effects”.

Whatever.

There are many if not most doctors that will try to put you on medication when your cholesterol is high. They will swear to it. So the answer is to find a new doctor? Argue with someone with an MD? Believe your doctor or believe this study? It can be quit a dilemma for someone that is sick.

I prefer my statins with a big glass of grapefruit juice.

Try these supplements for six months and your skeptical nature will subside... statins and other drugs don’t produce the results claimed without significant side effects...

If you think Omega 3 oils, Turmeric, Vitamins B, C, D and E are snake oil then you are just ignorant... nothing less - and nothing more... just ignorant...

I’m sure you know what your comment means - but I don’t get it.

You say — “Just cook at home, hon.” — I do and have for many years...

After I read it I purchased two more copies: One for my parents and one for my in-laws. The author is a cancer survivor who uses holistic methods to keep his cancer at bay. He started doing this after his cancer came back for the third time. All of his info is researched material and published studies. He doesn't make any claims that eating broccoli and nothing but broccoli will cure cancer. In fact, he claims that there is no natural way to cure cancer, but there are natural ways to prevent it and stop it from growing once it starts. The book jacket says everyone has cancer cells but not all of us will get cancer. Anyway, it is a fascinating read. Especially when he explains what cancer is (the body overreacting to inflammation) and how it grows.

They’ve never worked for me. My cardiologist took me off Lipitor when I ended up in the emergency room doubled over in pain and found out my liver enzymes were out of whack due to the Lipitor. Now he doesn’t want me taking anything. Plus, whenever I took statins I got no benefit.

My wife is the same way. They simply do not work.

And don’t forget that the CDC reported no deaths from vitamins in 2008 and 2009. Last 150,000 died from Tylenol.

From what I have heard, there was a very spirited debate about whether cholesterol levels were a true indicator of heart health and whether a “high” cholesterol level could lead to heart disease. I suspect that drug companies were behind the push to declare cholesterol a “bad” thing.

Just eat at home, enjoy, and ignore the advisement of the “experts.” I’m here 16 years longer than the “experts” predicted that I would be. Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’!

Oxidation of the fat cells is what triggers a heart attack and not cholesterol. That is why we take antioxidants. The reason why our bodies produce cholesterol is to protect our arteries. When we get older our arteries get soft and the cholesterol helps that.

Plenty of Homocysteine in our blood is the common denominatior of heart attacks and cancer. Homocysteine is the stuff that’s put in cows, chickens, etc.. to fatten them up. Vitamin B6 dissolves the Homocysteine in your blood.

http://www.drpasswater.com/nutrition_library/homocysteine.html

Take plenty of the following if you don’t want a heartattack or cancer.

B6
Vitamin C
Vitamin E (multi Tocopherols)

Also take Fish Oil (Keep it in the Fridge)
Flaxseed Oil (Also stored in the Fridge in a Natural Cold Pressed non see through bottle)

Finally Alkaline your body with plenty of water and food vs. Acidic bodes help the bad stuff manifest in you vs. and Alkaline body. Most of the bad stuff cannot survive in an Alkaline environment.

For the record I have not been sick in over 4 years. Not even so much as a common cold. My annual allergies are long gone too. I’m not even allergic to cats anymore. Although I still like dogs better.

Keep in mind I still eat crap. I just try to do everything in moderation. Hope this helps you out.
