I try not to eat junk so I was at Sweet Tomatoes a few days ago. They are a soup and salad buffet. For the carnivores they always have chicken noodle soup with big pieces of chicken in it and a great full tasting broth. They have passable pizza and very good muffins. In advance I had printed out a coupon from the internet that saves me ~17%. So I get my food and paid the cashier. I look behind me and see this 22 year old holding up his iPhone in front of the cashier. Displaying (you guessed it) the same coupon I had to dick around printing it out. She accepted it.
I said to the kid, "I'm a dinosaur. I had to print it out" This got no reaction from him. Because when you are young you think you will re-invent the world and older people are just in the way
You are assuming the original poster could tell an iPhone from a Droid phone.
www.couponclipper.com has an Iphone app.
I saw somebody do that a few months ago. They had to zoom in on the barcode for the person at the gate to scan it.
I’m trying to figure out how you are supposed to check in for your flight from home the night before. Doesn’t that violate basic laws of physics. “Checking in” means “I am here” the last time I checked. Not, I’m somewhere in the metro area.
*ping*
Very good. I can't tell the difference right now. But I did say to the kid, "I saw that coupon on your iPhone". He did not say it was a droid. He wanted to be on his way and eat his lunch so may not have wanted to bother correcting me.
Plus the average person figures any smart phone he sees is an iPhone. The word iPhone becomes generic for all smart phones
If the kid wanted to use a coupon pictured on his phone, then I would have to take his phone (with coupon displayed)and place in the cash drawer with the other coupons.
*Or I could just e-mail him a picture of the product he purchased and call it even.
Groupon has an Android app.
I’m 54 and I use virtual coupons on my NOOK for coffee at the B&N coffee shop. And I’m OVER IT.
But they're still painful when they get inflamed....
Can we do the same thing with an iPad?
No one wants to like the people who thought computers were just a fad.
WOW!
Imagine that, easier and faster ways to blow your money! Does it automatically fill you bank account while you sleep too?
Is this really an “encounter”? I’ve been using coupon apps for a while now (Scoutmob has some of the best deals in my area). My fiancee and I often choose to try new places based on where we can get a Scoutmob deal. It’s a good way for bars and restaurants to bring in new people.
Was that the Sweet Tomatoes at Cypress Creek and Andrews?
An iPad will run any iPhone app so there’s no reason you couldn’t.
I’ve been using Restaurants.com. Dennis-—You should check it out especially for the Cannoli Kitchen certificate. I used two of them. The first time for a pizza and a dinner and the second time for two pizzas. Those pizzas were so good that the second time I didn’t want to waste the certificate on just regular dinner. Cannoli Kitchen located near corner of Commericial & University.
I never saw someone flash a coupon on a smart phone before. It never occurred to me that it could be done
This got no reaction from him. Because when you are young you think you will re-invent the world and older people are just in the way

Your takeaway from the encounter is odd, IMO.
This kid wasn’t trying to reinvent anything, just taking advantage of the world as it exists today, due to his familiarity with the tools available to him.
As for his thoughts about you ... you probably reminded him of his parents ...
