Vanity--Honeyville Grain and their trouble with the USDA
Honeyville Grain | 2/3/2011 | Self

"As many of you know we have been out of stock on our #10 cans of Powdered Whole Eggs and Egg Whites for about 3 months. This has been as a result of working with the USDA on plant and label approval with new stricter requirements with respect to eggs. We've endured numerous delays and setbacks throughout the process. From an email received from Honeyville foods:

"About a week ago we had received approval to begin Production. We did so and even had product on UPS trailers ready to be picked up. We got a call from the USDA stating that they had put us through the wrong process and we would have to start over again. We had to pull all of the outbound orders and go back into a holding pattern. At this point we are moving through the process but have no idea when we'll be back in business with the canned eggs. It is a frustrating situation with one of our best sellers and we apologize for the delay. Just as soon as we have product ready to ship we will send out an email to all of our great Honeyville Customers. We appreciateyour patience."

This information about the USDA process screw up was provided by Honeyville Foods. Honeyville Grain produces many freeze dried foods for purchase, and I've bought many of their products to supplement my family's food storage cache. One of their most popular products (freeze dried eggs) was required to go through additional processes to meet new regs. Am I crazy for thinking the USDA is messing with this company on purpose?

Could be it was done on purpose. If we can't stockpile food in preparation for an emergency, then it's easier for the government to control us.

I dehydrated my own, too. No I didn’t dehydrate them raw. I cooked them cooled them below dehydrator temp, then dehydrated them. I spread them in a thin layer in a non stick skillet til cooked solid, cooled em and dehydrated them. Turned out great.

I caught all this too.
I am buying organic powered eggs, WAY more expensive, but as they are all ready to purchase, I’m feeling less iffy about them. I’m just putting up a few pounds worth.
Some other powdered and dehydrated items are “unavailable” as well-some potatoes now.
I just ordered canned butter (yes it’s real butter) and some real canned cheese.
Worse case scenario I donate it all to a pantry before it’s expiry date.
Get powdered non-fat milk in grocery store. Whole powdered milk can be ordered online-I would try for the European processed rather than the stuff from Mexico. It’s not cheap, but has tons of uses.
