Video: Christina Aguilera Forgets the 'Ramparts' in National Anthem, Leaves Betters Hanging
New England Sports Network ^ | Feburary 6, 2011 | Nick Coman

Christina Aguilera's national anthem at Super Bowl XLV was the subject of two popular prop bets -- the length of her performance and the duration for which she held the final note.

The line on the total anthem length was 1 minute, 54 seconds, a figure that she was nearly exactly at, according to unofficial times.

Aguilera, however, forgot the line in the Star Spangled Banner about "the ramparts." If she had completed the anthem in full, she would have nearly certainly gone over the Vegas line.

Her final note appeared to have lasted longer than the six seconds that the line was set at.

Very sad that she sang it horrible but not knowing the lyrics! She should have lessons from this previous Super Bowl anthem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ETrr-XHBjE

I'd have guessed a time closer to 4:00 for an accomplished urban yodeler like her.

“Christina Aguilera’s national anthem at Super Bowl XLV was the subject of two popular prop bets”

We have fetshized sports in this country, ad absurdum.

I thought the word was “bettors”? Or did I just pull that out of a hat?

I could not listen to all of this rendition. Apart from forgetting the words, I hate it when this national anthem or any of our other national hymns are all jived up.

She also flatted or sharped out virtually every other note. It was a disgrace to our Anthem and to the honorable art of singing.

She belonged over on the Animal Channel singing for the Puppy Bowl. But then, that would be cruelty to animals.

I walked out of the room to avoid hearing it -- it was horrible and disgraceful! It's our National Anthem, not some trashy MTV tune.

She wins a position of distinction right along side of “Rosanne Barr”.

Well at least they didn't ask Roseanne to perform it. Speaking of Roseanne, her career sure has disappeared. I haven't heard anything out of her for years, a fact I'm eternally grateful for.

Just caught a glimpse of Roseanne getting bowled over by a giant log in a Super Bowl commericial a few minutes ago.

Glad I missed. Christina Aguilera assaulted Julianne Hough at the Golden Globes pre-show party. Don’t like her at all.

She was just in a Snickers commercial 10 minutes ago.

Would it kill the NFL to get someone to sing the National Anthem who doesn’t suck?

"She was just in a Snickers commercial 10 minutes ago."

OH No! Just by mentioning her name, I have summoned her back onto this plane of existence. Maybe if I type her name backwards I can banish her back to whence she came.

ENNAESOR...ENNAESOR...ENNAESOR!

Well, maybe so..I consider myself a patriot but probably couldn't remember all the words. It's just a old English pub song. And really hard to sing.

I believe you are correct.

However those of us who know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner are indeed her “betters”.
