Why do Americans drive around in Fred Flintstone vehicles and what's the underlying problem behind the vast majority of Brits buying Fords and Vauxhalls year after year? Why does your tap water taste like sh*t and why don't Italians tear down buildings that no longer are in use?

Denmark has the highest wages on Earth. Norway can compete. OK. But why is it that every time I visit our dear western neighbors I feel sorry for people driving wrecks instead of Volvo V70s?
Is the V70 a far too sophisticated vehicle for your marijuana-inflicted brains?

Please visit Sweden once in your lifetime and study how civilized people live and work.
In case you're healthy and normally furnished in the brain department there's no reason why you should not drive a nice Volvo/BMW/M-B/Audi/SAAB/Cadillac and own a nice home.

Why would anybody be sorry for anybody driving wrecks. I drove and replaced engines in wrecks for years because I couldn’t afford anymore. Work and get it done.

Put on a Yarmulke and walk the streets of Malmo. If you make it kilometer, I’ll be shocked. I’d be surprised if you could even make it several kilometers in Stockholm.
In the US, just about anywhere, you can walk all you want that way. We may some day get as bad as Malmo, but it’s still years away, as we DON’T apologize for cultures that behave that way.

Personally, I think "Volvo/BMW/M-B/Audi/SAAB/Cadillac" are all pretentious pieces of crap. Hard to work on, crazy expensive, and impossible to find parts for. Who the hell wants that kind of headache?
That is *not* what brings (or is) happiness, nor independence.
Could you please inform us as to the point of this post? *Who* has a nation to run? Why are the Italians brought into this? My tap water doesn’t taste like sh*t, as it’s well water from a pure brook, so this doesn’t apply to most of New England... this entire post is so incoherant that I really do not understand who it is that you’re complaining about. I know in a previous post you said you used to work at Volvo (or maybe you still work there) ... but you are letting your company loyalty drive you ... er... Berserk ... I suppose its in your nature (Definition of BERSERK 1 : an ancient Scandinavian warrior frenzied in battle and held to be invulnerable 2 : one whose actions are recklessly defiant) ... but its only a car.
Give a rest, and have some lukefish... or reindeer burger ... or some of whatever is the Swedish national dish...
Actually, we live in a nice house on a beautiful lake. We don’t own a summer house, but we do own a ranch in Texas.
And the Euros drive this. And this is merely Opel, owned by GM!
But what do people own in Sweden besides their cars and TVs? Americans own a great deal of real estate and a lot of stock in corporations throughout the world. In the US, we pay about 30% of our income in all forms of taxes (income, property, and sales taxes). What is that percentage in Sweden....closer to 50%, isn’t it? But you get government-run health care. Here we would rather keep more income and pay for our own health insurance. That’s the conflict we have with Obamacare, which was rammed through congress by a bunch of socialists who were thrown out of office last year.
My younger brother owns 5500 acres with another guy in which they lease most of it for exactly that.
I’ve never owned a “nice” car because a to me they are just a means to get where I am going. I have even bought rebuilts because they cost about 2/3 of book value and then I just drive them into the ground.
But I’ll readily concede that Swedish girls are hot!
Henning Mankell presents quite a different view of Sweden.
