Giant organ brings French sound to NY

NEW YORK (AFP) – Here's heavy metal music that won't give you a headache: a French-built organ with more than 6,000 steel pipes that has just started thundering from a New York church.
The organ, built by master artisans in France, draws on centuries of French organ tradition, creating an authentic Baroque sound that other makers just can't copy, according to organist Dennis Keene.
"It reminds you of Versailles at the king's arrival. We don't have this kind of sounds in the US," Keene enthused.
The instrument, comprising a staggering 6,183 pipes in 111 ranks, will be officially inaugurated in May at the Church of the Ascension on Fifth Avenue in New York.

Or, one could sing acapella like we do which really makes me, at least, feel like I am really doing it just for the TRUE audience, our Father.
Organ accompaniment sounds very “majestic”.

Careful now. I happen to play lead guitar in a church worship team. Then I'm glad for you. Not my cup of tea though. I like my church services with an organ, the way God intended :)

Does anyone remember Organ Power Pizza near San Diego? There's an Organ Stop Pizza near Phoenix. It's a shame that so many of the remaining magnificent instruments are relegated to pizza places, but at least they live. A place like the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, England is now a glorious exception.
Understanding that this is a full pipe organ and thus a completely different animal, there's still no sound like a Mighty Wurlitzer.

“Main musical element” sheesh...implies there are multiple musical elements.
Though some (many?) would disagree I'm not a big fan of church's that try to stage amateur Disney musicals.

“Main musical element” sheesh...implies there are multiple musical elements. In some modern churches, there are. For example, some use piano music, some use soloists with recorded accompaniment. It's great for some, but not for me.
I tend to agree with you, though. I am not a fan of 'Rock Me, Jesus'. In our church, unfortunately, our idea of an oldie is a song written before 2005.
